Why Choose 2.0LT over 1.8L T Audi A4 ?

Hi I am new to Audi Forum and I took a A4 with manual Tranny last week fell in love with Audi's right there and then. Now I want to buy one from the States to save some money.

What I would like to know is why one would chose 2.0 L over 1.8 T. I am looking between years 2003-2005.5 I guess. I know a few very minor ext details but how about the guts of cars.

Here is what I have heard so far 2.0L 30 more horsepower

Not sure what Gas Mileage between 1.8 vs 2.0 would make any ideas?

What is the story about the Oil Sludge in Audi engines is that something I should be worried about? Did this go away in 2.0T L ?

Supposedly 2.0 l can be chipped out very easily to get better Horses and gas Mileage as opposed to 1.8 T any truth to this?

Sorry for all the questions but want to make sure I buy the right car.

Cheers

Oiler Country

P.S Looking forward to my new Audi :)

1.8t- 170hp 2.0t -200hp
gas mileage should be roughly the same
the 1.8t have a oil sludge issue if improperly maintained one of the reasons is the small oil pick up tube. Cant say for sure but Audi probably did fix the oil sludge issue havent heard of any sludged 2.0t yet.
Both motors can be chipped easily to get more hp and torque but ur not gonna get better mileage from a chip. Chip increases turbo boost psi which means more air into the motor aswell as fuel.
Also the 2002-2005 is the b6 model with the 1.8t while the 2005.5+ is the b7with the 2.0t

Are there not B6 models available with the 2.0?

No. B6 models are not available with the 2.0. The 2.0 engine replaced the 1.8 in the B7 and now B8.

As for chipping....you will actulay get better gas milage....BUT, and this is a big a$$ but there, that will only happen if you are not using the extra HP provided by the chip. On hwy driving i went from an average of 8.2L/100km, im now at 7.6L/100km. Around the city IF i do not push it and drive like i use to, i am ruffly the same. Like Chaos said, more air=more fuel. So if you dont push it, yes its slightly better, if you push it...which you will!!! your milage will go from 8.2 to about 10L/100km.

Anything else you would like to kno about the audi? Great to hear your interested in buying one!

Why would the milage go down if you drive the same??

I think you need to re-read the post before you type up a response!

Because one was chipped driving one wasnt and being chipped does improve gas milage!!!!!!!

No, I understood that 1 was chipped while the other wasn't. I however did not understand that chipping improves milage - thought it would just be power and if you use that power it kills milage.

I guess I was looking for more of an explanation on how chipping improves milage. I would have guessed that if both cars are driven in the same fashion (1 chipped and 1 not) that the milage would be equal.

Well this is where the milage improves actually according to a lot of people and the research done by the companies them selves. I guess it would de-rate your fuel from what it actually is  any thoughts guys ? I know it works just not exactly sure how I think its just by de-rating the fuel consumption at that rpm range...???

If im not mistake it has to do with the efficency of the engine. When you are chiped your car is now designed to run on a specific fuel ratio based on the octane. When you are not chipped the engine has to over compensate for the posibility that you are changin fuels from 89-94 octane...so from the factory they set it to a mid point. Yes the computer can change the timming slightly as well. When you are chipped the computer no longer needs to compensate for anything. Its timming and fuel ratio is very specific to the octane rating. There for the computer is as effecient as posible in using the exact amount of fuel required.

Like 1move said...its pretty much de-rates your fuel so it no longer needs to worry about anything.
