What's missing from this photo?

Seriously, in the pic there seems like a void where some kind of part should reside. Anyone know what, if anything, should be there? This is in a 2005 A4 Avant 1.8T.

Your car is manual, if it was automatic there would be something that goes there (however i dont know what it is).
Its like that on my car as well. |

Re: What's missing from this photo?
I'd check for you but my car is currently in the shop. I'll try to check for you when I get it back, which is hopefully my this weekend.
I drive a 2004 A4 Avant 1.8T, so the engine bay should be near identical. I have the CVT transmission, so if auto's have something there, I am assuming mine would. |

I finally got my car back this week, and I snapped a photo of my engine bay.
The part number is 8E0927317A and apparently its a Break Vaccum Pump. Whats the reason for the Manual transmissions not having it? Or is it just in another location in the engine bay? |
Re: What's missing from this photo?
Just got a Bentley manual. Like you, it says it's a brake booster vacuum pump. It states that only the auto trans has it but doesn't say why.
