980Km!!! WOW, that's seriously impressive, more so for the S4, rather than the A4. I easily hit over 550Km constantly, mix of city and highway driving, also a mix of easy and hard driving.
I've already hit 780Km, driving to Syracuse, but I would have fallen a sleep, Locking it at 100Km/h, so 115-120Km/h is my usual choice, giving me the 700+ mileage.
But guys, considering the performance you get out of a stock Audi A4, it does pretty good mileage.

1998 A4 2.8 5MTQS around 480-510 km per tank.
2008 A4 Avant 2.0T 6MTQS around 560-590 km per tank
Both mixed city/highway driving North Vancouver to/from Vancouver

When I fill up the reading says 900 to 950 - I actually got it up to 1005! I usually fill up before the tank reaches half-way so I estimate fuel economy of about 700-750 per tank.

but think about it this way
I absolutely LOVE driving my A4...its such a step up for me from my 1990 honda accord. Being only 25...the AUDI has done marvels with the ladies! lol...and i'm scared shitless of pushing it constantly and having something break and then i'll be paying through my nose to the stealership to get it fixed (and no more lady friends going for rides...lol). So I take it easy and push it once in a while for the thrill of it.
Don't get me wrong. I'm a speed demon. That's why I have my crotch rocket. And I can pretty much guarentee that I can beat 90% of cars on the road today without even trying. AND it costs WAYYYY less than fuelling up an S4!! lol
