Suspension Questions

Hey guys. I have the 03 sport package. I'm looking to stiffen up the ride a bit. I've heard that adding the s4 rear sway will make it tighter. The question is will it really make that much of a difference? is it worth the 200 for the part plus labour? Also next year I would like to change my suspension. Which aftermarker cup kit will be a tad lower then the current 03 sport?

Re: Suspension Questions

go with the rs4 rear sway bar, it will make a bigger difference especially coming from a sports package. less body roll during cornering and turns, a very cheap mod to increase handling of the car. i don't regret doing it at all.

Re: Suspension Questions

If you're upgrading your sway bars, you can also consider non-OEM kits. I like the H-Sport A4 set on my car.

Eibach springs tend to be the most conservative, but still gives you a nice drop from '03 sports package.

Re: Suspension Questions

Be carefull with going too big with the sway bar, RS4 is perfect and a bit on the over done side but its the best one I would say for an A4 as if you go any bigger you get over/under steer

Stevelev 09-11-2008 02:30 AM

Re: Suspension Questions

If you're looking to just reduce understeer then go with a rear bar only. Frankly, I love the benefits that the h-sports provide (front and rear). On both my B6 A4 and now my B7 not only do they reduce understeer, turn-in is far better AND corners as well as high speed lane changes can be done safely at higher speeds. If you're looking for coilovers, check out Vogtlands - I've got Startup Racing GT's which have slightly higher spring rates than the regular Vogts and they're awesome. BTW, Startup Racing is border friendly. Check out my reviews ...

Re: Suspension Questions

thank you for the reply's guys. I would have never imagined that an extra few MM would make a big difference for the rear sway bar. For suspension I wanna go with a nice cup-kit that would be just a bit lower then the current sport set up & a tad stiffer!! Any recomended places to get the sway bar installed?

go to independent

I am thinking about getting it tmr ...hopely

Asked the dealer price 216+tax -_- phew (Downtown audi sucks! not really :P)

Re: Suspension Questions

just on a side note...to change a rear swar bar is really easy. Should not cost you 200!! i think i paid like 70 from the dealer for the RS4 rear sway and then do it yourself.

thealla 02-10-2009 05:14 PM

Re: Suspension Questions

called the downtown toronto audi dealer

b7 rs4 rear swaybars are 216 something and add 13% tax.

I donno where did you get it done?

I also got a quote from I.P as well.

Oh yeah one more thing.

thatz for 2004 audi a4 1.8t mt

Re: Suspension Questions

You can get the OEM RS4 for a bit less than that (Neil@OWASCO gives great pricing - tell him I sent ya if you go this route). Although I still suggest both front and rear h-sports, as an alternative, consider the Hotchkis rear RS4 bar (h-sport) instead of the OEM one as as you'll have the adjustibility and better resale value down the road.

Re: Suspension Questions

you dont have to go B7, you can go with the B6 RS4 rear sway. I will find out tommorow what i paid for mine but it was definitly not 200. labour they generaly charge 1 hour...75-90 per hour but trust me when i say you can do it yourself.

Huh ? There's no diff between the B6 and B7 RS4 bars ... The S4 bar in the B6 and early B7's was an "S4" bar whereas Audi started using the RS4 rear bar in the 2007 S4's.

I did not know that! I just saw his post saying he priced out a B7 so i figured i would let him know about the B6.

Ummm... just an FYI there is no B6 RS4, they only came in B5(2001) and B7(2005.5 and on)!

Who is I.P.? Do you mean I.T.??

sonic 02-11-2009 11:39 AM

Re: Suspension Questions

ya my bad as well...completly overlooked the fact that there was no B6 RS4

thealla 02-11-2009 09:58 PM

Re: Suspension Questions

Yeah I went to Independent I,P OR I.T whatever

did the rear sway bar, dv, and some others etc.

I don find any difference after installing the sway bar...?

Well, I drive like a *****, slowly as hell and umm -_-

I made really lousy power turns with esp? off

....still the same.

My other car, when I installed the sway bars and everything, it gave me quick cornering and very good response, but not this car Audi a4.

hmm...worth it? haha

1move 02-11-2009 11:19 PM

Re: Suspension Questions

you sure they installed one? Whats your driving style like? For example I can take recomended 40km/h offramps at twice that without issues

thealla 02-11-2009 11:34 PM

Re: Suspension Questions

I did not try that, but I usually turn around ramps at about 90km (50 recomended) and 40km (30 recomended), not that I scared of cornering, but don wanna burn up these good tires ... and gas ? may be.

Re: Suspension Questions

I would get under the back and check if infact they put in the RS4 Sway bar.

Stevelev 02-12-2009 05:06 PM

Re: Suspension Questions

I'm guessing that the heavy ass Audi may not be as drastically affected with a rear bar only (driving like a wuss) compared to many lighter cars.

When I installed h-sports (F&R) on my B6 (A4 Avant), I initially didn't notice much difference either. As I spent more time driving the car, I realized that I was taking corners and off ramps at higher speeds as well as doing lane changes without any "fanfare". That's when I recognized the true benefits :-)

Re: Suspension Questions

Yeah well I don't doubt that I.T guys didn't do the right job and Bryan is really nice guy, good mechanic after all

Anyway I posted the other threads relates with center differential to make from awd to rwd

Some guy also gave me a good hint on stasis center differential thing and I would like to get some opinions from you guys.

Itz not something I wouldn't just do it, but I am considering it, cuz then you will basically own three different style of cars. fwd, awd, rwd correct me if i am wrong.

The thread is on audi a4 first page i think.

Stevelev 02-12-2009 05:57 PM

Re: Suspension Questions

NO question that Bryan@IT is awesome.

Here's some info: Stasis Centre Diff upgrade

I understand the benefits are quite noticeable on the track. If you're not tracking or at the very least driving enthusiastically (read: driving like you stole it), this may not be a worthwhile upgrade for you.

dsq 02-15-2009 11:20 AM

Re: Suspension Questions

i'm surprised you didn't notice any difference after putting the rs4 rsb on the car, but based on the description on your driving habits, i don't think the stasis diff will be worth installing, especially since your engine is stock.

thealla 02-15-2009 12:38 PM

Re: Suspension Questions

I now kind feel the difference, yes, the corner got better

I am thinking about getting the torsen center differential (make a4 into rwd)

what you all think?

I thought, if i pus rs4 rsb, i would get more over-steering

anyway let me know some info on the center differential

Is it okay? performance wise?
