Squeal and loss of grip or power when I release the clutch

02 A4 1.8T Manual transmission

Hey guys this is very strange.

Let's say I'm at a red light and I get green. Off the start I'll press the clutch, shift and as I release the clutch, or half a second as the first gear is just coming under load I get a sudden high pitched and loud squeal along with a quick loss of power or what feels like grip. It's almost as if the clutch has lost grip and grabbed again

This just started and is only happening in first or second gear and it's pretty random. I'm only getting it off the line and have not had any issues with it in the higher gears. I really baby my clutch but I've only had the car since 2007 so I have no clew how it was used or for that matter, abused the first five years of it's life.

I've searched the forum but have not found a similar issue. Anyone have a clue as to what this might be?

it just sounds like your fly plate is worn and the clutch has a hard time gripping in the lower gears cause there is more friction then the higher ones.

Assuming it's not your hydraulics - and I'd check the slave/master cylinders to be sure - it's time for a new clutch. They're wear items, and there's almost a decade on that one. It's a good opportunity to upgrade the clutch and toss a chip/injectors on :)

So would a clutch replacement fix all this? I'm due for a new clutch soon

i dont want to say 100% yes but from the sounds of the problem it probably will fix it.

a quick test drive by a mechanic would be able to give you the best idea tho.
