Selling my Audi...

Hey Ppls,

so I am putting my Audi on Sale, i love that car but since i was going to APR tune
my car i thought i should do it to an S4 instead of a CVT tranny car!!

So have been looking at some B5 S4's

found one in that amazing yellow color!!

Used 2000 AUDI S4 for Sale In THOMPSON, MB - 3458982 - autoTRADER.ca

or another one in black!

Used 2001 AUDI S4 for Sale In WINNIPEG, MB - 1621273 - autoTRADER.ca

first thing after i sell my car and get a S4 would be to go to APR!!!!!

Personally I do not think that an APR mod is good enough for a CVT tranny. I've done it myself, and now regret it. The CVT is not built to stand the extra power.

I would consider the yellow one, based on the colour and the mileage. Personal taste (!)

You bet exactly what i was thinkin, dont want to wreck the CVT tranny, i was leaning more towards the Imola Yellow myself!!!

Re: Selling my Audi...

Yeah... The APR stage I takes the tranny to its max. Not worth spending the money, I would say.

The yellow S4 looks very nice. Did you make any offer ?

Well i emailed the seller asking him if the S4 is still available, the black one is but no word from Imola yellow yet. Before i buy it id bring it to a shop and get it checked out tho,

ive never had cars that werent grey or silver metallic so Imola yellow would be a HUGE change! lol

Forget about the change, it just looks great !!! Wish you luck!

Wise move. However, a question to ask the owner is where has the car been serviced in Thompson for the past 4 years? Also, where in Thompson would you get the car checked out? I don't think there any Audi or even VW Dealers up there.

Not being critical of Thompson Car Service facilities but I would want the S4 checked-out by either an Audi shop or a European service shop.

Good luck.

I don't think I need to tell you what my favorite colour on an Audi is.

The S4 is a really nice car but make sure to do your research and find their weak spots. I would go with the black one myself, yellow is kind of a heat score so you would be more likely to draw attention with the yellow car. Either car looks really nice though and they are both 6 speeds which seems to be rare with this car. I do like my A4, it looks like an S4 but puts the same power to the ground that the S4 puts to the crank. There are a lot of little goodies that go with the S4 so it is a unique machine and if it has been taken care of it would be a joy to drive.

good luck with the sale!
i like the black one, but i have always had a thing for black cars, with tints and chrome wheels... nice clean look. however, the km are a little high on the black one.
the yellow one seems suspicious to me. ad with no ph #.... i have seen others like this on autotrader, and often they are scams where they ask you to send money for a car unseen that is "located somewhere else", and that they will deliver it after payment. just be aware!

I hear ya jordon,

i wanted to call the seller yesterday but then noticed no phone number, the other Seller/Dealer i know. ive been there before, he keeps a clean shop and mostly specializes in Imports. like you said km's are a little high but id make sure that i know what iam getting into before i purchase that S4.

Re: Selling my Audi...

Ive been told by a couple people that i shouldnt get the S4, they say the S4 would have usually been driven hard. Well what do you expect, i pushed my car too once in a while. I ve gone 240kmh with it on an open car free road. doesnt mean my car will be less reliable then others right?? I mean yes i should for sure check into the S4 more closely before i purchase one but cars are meant to be driven, and if you had an S4 i betcha anybody would drive it harder once in a while. I think the most important part is if its been modded or crashed and fixed up in any way.

any comments??

Re: Selling my Audi...

In Germany, these cars are driven around 200km/h all the time. They are meant for that. S4 is supposed to be harder driven. Yes, you are right: the way the car was taken care of is what it matters.

[ Once I have asked a German friend what speed is he driving; 'when I am not in a hurry, 180, and 220 when I am' was his answer. ]

Re: Selling my Audi...

The S4 was designed to be driven harder than a regular A4 but both are based on the same chassis with improvements that can be put on the standard model. As car age they also start to wear or break and the harder a car is driven the more it will need attention to keep it racing. Racing cars are driven very hard but they are also rebuilt on a much shorter frequency so the more you push it the more you maintain it. My 1.8T puts out a lot of power so it has oil changes at about 1/4 of the recommended change interval and the timing belt is well under 1/2 of the modified frequency. If the car is driven hard then the maintenance schedule must reflect this and the harder it is driven the more likely things are to wear. Cars that are driven by executives generally have an easier life but they also have problems because of the over easy life they have had. Cars that are driven by enthusiasts will typically be maintained better but may be driven harder. You really want to look closely at a car owned by a person that can just afford it because these ones are typically just driven and not maintained.

I think the most of the S4 related problems are with the motor otherwise they are common to the regular A4 model. I have heard the timing belts are also a problem on these cars and if they are driven hard the timing belt may very well not make it to the next change. I have also heard these motors have issues with the crank lubrication so this would be something to look into. The turbos on these motors don't have a good track record and most people say that you will have to replace them at some point but others have done pretty good. Otherwise some procedures force you to remove the motor to work on them but that is not a problem.

The S4 is a great car so you can't go wrong there but you can always make your A4 'S4' like if you wanted to. There are also upgrades or swaps you can do to the current ride that can allow it to be like and S4 or even better. The S4 package is a pretty in-depth package because they went through the interior, suspension, engine, transmission, and trim but you can match or exceed it using factory or aftermarket parts. After reading about the motor and the parts that go with it I really wondered if it was worth it. Although the B6 S4 is almost double the price I was actually leaning more towards it because it had a simple V8 with lots of torque and few of the problems.

Re: Selling my Audi...

OK guys i took the black S4 for a test drive and now i think my A4 sucks bad!!!
The interior looks in very good condition, leather not cracked or faded, paint looks good, some minor things would need replacing other than that it looks good.

OK now for the bad part, this vehicle actually has 278,000km, and not 217,000, was a typo from him.

i will attach a carfax report later on

Re: Selling my Audi...

I wouldn't buy a 300,000KM B5 S4 unless I budgeted for an engine rebuild, new turbos, and a clutch. You should definitely do a compression/leak-down test of any car with 300,000KM on the engine before considering purchasing it. Also, since replacing the turbos requires an engine pull, you should be prepared for such a large expense (unless you can do it yourself).

Considering that I've seen excellent-condition Stage 3 S4s with <150,000KM selling for the low teens, I wouldn't waste my time with the black car...

i agree 100%
turn around and run from that car!
have a little patience, and look a little more. you WILL find a decent shape one with under 200k for around the 10g mark (maybe even less), so keep looking!

Sure it was! This should have been the warning sign. I wouldn't trust a seller that made a "typographical error" of that proportion. If he can't be honest the first time, he won't be honest the next!!! Be very very careful!

EDIT: It's easier to justify 227,800 as a typo! But who knows, maybe I'm wrong. In either case, I hope you find a better deal out there! ;)
