Default Oil Changes

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to get some clarification on Oil Changes for my Audi.

I drive an 04 1.8TQ:
1. How often would I need to get my oil and filer changed assumiing I use 'synthetic' oil?

2. How often would I need to get my oil and filer changed assumiing I use 'regular' oil?

3. Would you reccomend getting this done at the Audi Dealership or would be going to Canadian Tire be a safe choice?

4. Cdn Tire is quoting $80+tax for oil and filter with synthetic- does this seem ressonable?

Thanks guys,

Slim

You can use regular oil if you dont want the car to run properly and not last long.

Crappy tire should be avoided at all costs IMO, as some of those guys have no idea WTF they are doing. In my previous experiance with them, I had to replace more parts after the car was taken for a fix. Why dont you use a Mr.Lube or Minit Lube etc. I dont know all the names, they do a pretty decent job.

Your not screwed... 7500 is very much on the safe side. With the Audi I try to do it every 8000, but I don't worry if I get to 10,000. Synthetic oil takes quite a long time to break down compared to conventional.

The Audi service interval is 15k. I would say 10k is very safe. You should be able to get synthetic oil/filter for 80$ in most places. Ive had it as low as 60$.

never use conventional oil, these cars are notorious for sludge problems....

$60 seems pretty cheap even $80 does. I do my own and if I can find the oil on sale it still costs me about $75.

Are you sure it is 15k, I mean I know synthetic oil is resistant to thermal breakdown but it still gets contaminated and a filter only lasts so long

I'm using Ams oil & change every 7-8k plus using manhle filter it's made in germany or so it says on the box. it's weird because it says the filter is good for 30000km right on the filter. So I'm taking it's a Heavy duty one. it cost's me about 120$ every oil change.
