low RPM?

First time Audi owner - 2002 A4 1.8t quattro. Drives nicely.

Question - RPM's are running around 2,000-2,300 when driving (sometime lower). And unless I hammer the gas pedal, the car accelerates without down shifting.

Seems like this might be hard on the transmission. However I've read the engines are well engineered and somewhat gas efficient (for a turbo).

Is this normal? Is it causing an damage? This is when I touch

This car's an auto with tip-tronic. My last car was a 5 speed, and I was used to shifting (conversatively) around 3,400.

Thanks for the advice, looks like this is a supportive forum.

Re: low RPM?

This is okay, and normal operation depending on what speed you are going. When you hammer the gas it should downshift and accelerate, a lot faster obviously. I wouldnt be worried
