HELP with Brake Job
Hey guys...so I need to replace my front brakes and rotors.
I've never attempted to do this by myself. I want to learn. If I buy the parts needed, can someone help me with this? I'll be more than happy to compensate you for your time. Money, beer...whatever you prefer lol Please help guys...also after reading numerous posts...i've finally decided to go with OEM because everyone who gets zimmerman rotors...which i thought was a decent replacement are complaining about rust...i HATE rust... so again...if anyone in the toronto/scarborough area is willing to help me...i'll be very thankful and don't worry...i won't expect freebies...i'll be happy to compensate you as well...i just want to have someone who's done this many times watch over what I do incase i screw up somehow. Thanks, Myron |

Re: HELP with Brake Job
brake jobs are pretty hard to screw up there is only 2 bolts you need to undo essentially. there is a lot of DIY on the internet.
heres your quick intro undo the caliper from the upright, pull it off the rotor, Do not undo the brake line from the caliper or open the nipple on the caliper, support caliper so it does not hang by brake line, pull off rotors, replace rotor, pull old pads out of caliper, push caliper piston back in with a clamp or if there is an X on the piston spin caliper piston clockwise, replace pads, put caliper on rotor, torque caliper bolts after tightening and pump brakes before driving. |
Re: HELP with Brake Job
scotta4: shouldn't he clean /lube the slider/guide pins or whatever they are called on the caliper?

Re: HELP with Brake Job
^ Yes... and also watch for brake fluid to overflow the reservoir if the front caliper pistons have to be compressed alot in order to install the new pads.

Re: HELP with Brake Job
he should be changing the fluid anyways after 5 years its probably full of water.
