DRL for imported a4 2007 from US

Hi, if anyone can help. I am bringing a audi A4 from the US registred 2007 Jan model although somewhere it says the manufactured date is Oct 2006.

On the lights switch there is no auto. It of couse doesn't have the DRL activation button.

I understand the fog lights can be used as DRL in Canada. I called my local audi dealer, they said charge $299 + taxes to either program or rewire the fog lights to DRL.

I've called Audi Canada, they said they will try to see from VIN number whether the fog lights can be programmed.

what's the best option to set the fog lights or other to DRL ?
Is the VAG-COM cable a good option to do it yourself ?
Is it simply to plug it somewhere in the car and connect it your laptop. Do you need to download any software to do it ?
I am computer savy so maybe able to do it myself.

btw, must audis drive lovely and with styling I think it is one of the best cars around.

Check the 'Daytime Running Lights' topic, above yours.

How to set fog lights as DRL on Audi A4 2007

If anyone can pls help.
I have a audi a4 year 07 manufactured 06 Oct. Bought in the US. It does not have DRL option.
I checked with Audi Canada and they say the fog lights can be set as the DRL (they come on/off with ignition on/off).
From the internet forums, they say you can set the 09 Electing coding to do this.
I got my vagcom cable to work/communicate with my car's OBD.
It shows a soft coding of 00003.
Question 1 - What should the coding be to turn on the fog lights as DRL ?
Question 2 - I tried recoding to 00004 but the software controller continually tries (is waiting forever) and doesn't complete.
Question 3- Does anything else have to be done splicing wires, what wires ?

Firstly standard DRLs for the Canadian B7 are either high beam at reduced power (if you have halogen lights) or the 21W bulb in the inner position (if you have bi-xenons).

Since you currently have 00003 that suggests US with Bi-Xenon. To enable DRL capability try 00023. No wire splicing should be needed.

There's a mod to allow fogs in parking light mode but that's separate from DRL functionality. This one does require a slight wiring modification. Have done that with mine.

Re: How to set fog lights as DRL on Audi A4 2007

thanks for getting back to me. the 00003 is contradicting, last 2 digits
0 - Halogen without DRL suggesting I have Halogen lights
3 - USA / Canada with Bi-Xenon suggesting I have Bi-Xenon
Physically, the lights look like Halogen.

I tried 00014 (4 - Canada without Bi-Xenon), it accepts the code and turns on the parking lights, ambers + fogs with the ignition on. Looks like a Xmas tree :-)

Tried, 00011,00012,00013 and turns on the tail lights + beam (but still high intensity, not reduced power) and no fogs. This maybe better but will see if I can change the adaptation 05 and reduce/dim lights to 55%.

Could also try 00023, should I try it, is it safe if my lights are Halogen ?

ok got the 100% correct required result. The coding should be 00024, this turns on bulb inside the inner lamp, that's all. Nothing else is turned on. This is exactly what the Canadian A4 B7 models do. thanks for the replies and hope this helps anyone else. The vag com cable I got was limited but allowed me to do this. It was $3.59 + $6 shipping total $10 on ebay from metapark. Audi stealership wanted $300 !

Re: DRL for imported a4 2007 from US

Sorry - you are correct 00003 could be halogen or Bi-Xenon headlights in the US.

00024 still doesn't sound right even though it is working for you. Are the inner lights full bright or reduced intensity? Do you have factory halogens or factory Bi-Xenons? - if you have aftermarket Bi-Xenon upgrade/replacement ignore what I'm posting as I have know idea how the different harnesses interact in that situation

Just to summarise.

On the North American B7
  • Factory Halogens use reflectors in the headlights
  • Factory Bi-Xenon use projectors for the headlight beams with a reflector on the inner light area (21W bulb and a small 5W city light)

US cars should end with a 3
US coding for halogens without DRL should be 00003
US coding for halogens with DRL should be 00013
US coding with Bi-Xenon with DRL should be 00023
US coding with Bi-Xenon without DRL should be 00033
US coding with Bi-Xenon with DRL/Tails should be 00043
I think some US cars had a second switch to manually enable/disable DRL operation located just to the right of the main headlight switch.

Canada cars end with 3 or 4 depending on the headlight type
DRL's are mandatory on Canadian cars
Canada coding halogen with DRL should be 00014
Canada coding Bi-Xenon with DRL should be 00023
00043 and 00044 would also be legal I think for Canada

Avants have a 1 in the 1st position
