DRL Fiasco - Urgent Plz Help

Hello,

So I am in the process of Importation and am hung-up on the DRL's with time becoming a HUGE issue.

Through peeling back the layers of bullshit and smoke screens put up by Audi dealership networks I managed to uncover pieces of the truth towards the whole picture. (Capilano Audi good - Glenmore Bad, Southgate VERY Bad).

It seems as tho anything post '02 requires only a software mod to update the Country Code - Which makes sense to me because essentially The Mfg'ing in Germany is not going to build 2 cars. It is the same car that comes off the line for NA - the wiring is already in place for both and then they adjust the computer to meet whatever Country Spec its going to. They're not going to build 2 separate cars.

The trouble I'm finding is living in a remote area - I only have access to a VW dealership, and they have only access to the first layer of codes. Audi codes are proprietary - and these are what the grubby dealers hold onto and shroud in a layer of secrecy in order to give them their desired platform to Price Gouge. Some are worse than others. Southgate in particular wanted 600$ to reprogram this and spun up an elaborate web of deceiving bullshit in an attempt to lose you - at which point they can bend you over and rape you. There is NO wiring or added harness relay splicing complete overhauling of the Computer program. No German engineer would design such a mess.

So it seems I need to have the software changed on my '04 1.8T through the VAG but Audi will not give VW the updated codes. I am looking at a 7hour drive x 2 inorder to take it into a dealership and bend over. Is there anyone, ANYONE that has a VAG plug in with Audi Codes in the GRande Prairie, Edmonton, Calgary area that I could pay$ to do this with? Alternatively is there any other kind of solution? OR download of this second layer of AUDI codes??!!
HELP!!

buy a ross tech vag-com cable, hook it up to your laptop and change the code from US to Can.

* Module 09 (Central Electrical), recode to ###XY, where:
X = DRL
0 – Halogen without DRL
1 – Halogen with DRL
2 – Bi-Xenon with DRL
3 – Bi-Xenon without DRL
4 – Bi-Xenon with DRL / tail light / license plate light

Y = Locale
1 – Rest of World / Nordic Countries / Denmark / Croatia / Baltic Countries with Bi-Xenon
2 – Nordic Countries / Denmark / Croatia / Baltic Countries without Bi-Xenon
3 – USA / Canada with Bi-Xenon
4 – Canada without Bi-Xenon
5 – Special Vehicles

Excellent! Just bought the Cable. Will Do. and Thank You! I wish AUDI understood these crooks at their dealership networks abusing this information for Capital Gain is the whole reason for the company's less than stellar Mtc reputation - arguably the one thing holding them back from Global Marketshare domination. 600$ for software manipulation??! It's 2011 - software is free! I can't even remember the last time I paid for a computer program - of any nature. Piracy exists for a reason..

Your right I do see the Irony ;) but Work? Really? at 600$ for a few clicks on a mouse? and then refusing to release the information, which I openly stated I would have happily paid them some form of reasonable nominal fee for licensing. Instead they wanted me to make a 14hour trip so I could shell out this absolutely ridiculous inflationary fee. I even had the representative at Audi Canada on the phone eventually recognizing the ridiculous nature of the whole thing. The framework was already there for me to be able to access this information in a remote location through the VW dealership - which was more than willing to co-operate. This is advantageous to Audi - it broadens their network increasing Marketshare. However the nearest dealerships would not release this information. Instead attempting to complicate it further by saying I most likely needed to splice this, rewire that, install a fuse, and re-hardwire the computer so it would not recognize all this. All of which is too complicated for the average mechanic to understand. Which I could smell the stink of bullshit on from a mile away. I truly feel sorry for the average consumer who believes anything these criminals try and say. In an open and honest transparent disclosure of information using actual cost-based pricing - I have no problems paying. But when this is not followed then the only solution is to play into their game. And to play it better than them. This is why I will always support Piracy, what they are doing is legalized stealing - and Piracy is a necessary evil to keep these malpractices in check - in all avenues of business. Great Cars, Exquisite engineering, but SHAME on Audi for allowing the Dealer networks and Service Departments to tarnish the Audi name.
And thank God for this forum to sift out the bullshit!
Amen ;)

Google is your friend!
Those so called inflated fees are there for a reason, to discourage you from importing. If you are a smart cookie you can do it yourself, anything can be done.

That is why such great forums exist like this community...trying to help each others and us supporting this forum!
Free advice: Find yourself a trustworthy Audi independent shop and avoid stealership at all cost unless they are a last resort!

Now with our Canadian $ above the US the gap is even more imprtant and let you money do the talking as we continue to get scalped with everything... want to hear the sad truth:

How do you keep on stealing from the average Canadian? Simply ask him!

Just a note to others that may be importing at a later time.........I purchased my car from a US dealer and one of the things I negotiated with them at the time of purchase was the change over, from US to Canada on the cars computer(price never changed, but they were happy to do it for me). Upon pickup everything had been changed over, from lights to KM settings on the odometer. Was a breeze to do the inspection when I imported into Canada.

I forgot to mention, this was not an Audi dealer, it was a VW dealer so not sure why you have been stonewalled by VW as they didn't have any problem in doing the conversion for me.
