Door Lock/Key FOB

The auto lock/unlock on my key fob wouldn't work yesterday. I manually opened the car and retrieved the manual. Reset the system as described in the manual. It would work for a while, then quit.

I did the reset a few times, and drove the car around town a bit. It is working now, 24 hours later. I bought a new battery but didn't replace it.

What's up with this?
