diagnose loud knocking noise???
I seem to be experiencing a loud knocking noise from the front end, which so far is only happening when letting my foot off of the gas after acceleration...I was told it could be cv joint, but i was wondering if anyone else has experienced something like this?

Re: diagnose loud knocking noise???
Noise can be from:
- front suspensions arm, ball joints - brakes - driveshafts |

Re: diagnose loud knocking noise???
if its in the engine bay then its probably you using low quality/ grade gas. if you using 91, then it could be some of the stated above, if your using like 89 or 87 try using 91 might fix it.

Re: diagnose loud knocking noise???
no no, i use 94 octane...it's not coming from the engine; it's coming from the driver-side tire area...i just bought some coil-overs, so maybe now is a good time to get the job done!

added to the loose feeling in the front end...it feels like the car is sliding when turning sharply in the parking lot!

get your whole control arms replaced. When was it last done? Some places who does wheel alignment will check all those before performing anything, and they wont do anything until you get it fixed.

Re: diagnose loud knocking noise???
where is the best place to order all the control arms....do they come as a kit or a package?

Re: diagnose loud knocking noise???
Audi B6 A4 Quattro 1.8T > Suspension > OEM
or you can check out ebay. The price varies on the quality. Meyle are known to be far superior than the stock ones(if not the best) because the stock should have been a RECALL >=| |
Re: diagnose loud knocking noise???
Before u gonna order any parts just go to mechanic shop and check what exactly u need, otherwise u waste time and money.

Re: diagnose loud knocking noise???
Brought it in to the mechanic, he can't diagnose the problem...the noise only happens on occasion and goes away when the brake is applied...he hoisted the car and took it for a spin...he says to drive it until the noose becomes more consistent!

Re: diagnose loud knocking noise???
Look at the control arms and tie-rod ends. Lift the car up (one wheel) and try to wiggle it, like put your hands on 9 and 3 o'clock and start doing like you want to take the wheel off. If you hear/notice any movement, then check the control arms and tie-rod ends.
Mine was vibrating crazy at certain speeds, and above certain speeds, and it was getting worse and worse. Tire balancing - nothing. Then, finally, I looked at the rubber on the the tie-rod ends, and it was clear that it was gone. |
