Hi. I have a 2005 Audi A4 3.0. My top was working fine until one day I went to put it down and I received a message on my dash that red "soft top can not be used". Has anyone gotten that? I had the care on, emergency break up, stepped on break and then pressed button. Nothing. I was told by someone to manually bring the top down and then bring it back up to "reset" it. Well, I can't take bring the top down, even when using the convertible top key. It will NOT budge. I read the instructions in the manual however the instructions are to bring your top UP. I just followed the instructions backwards..., anyway, it didn't budge. My trunk cannot be opened by remote or with the lever inside the car. I have to use the key everytime. I heard the trunk and the top work together and if something is wrong with my trunk that may be the reason why it's not working. Can anyone help a lady out?! Thanks so much!

 

Hey, good news! I was able to solve my problem (along with some help from Justin at Justanswer.com). It was a blown fuse. I checked the obvious fuses but not this particular one. Hopefully this will help others that run into the same problem. If you have a 2005 Audi Cabrio and this happened to you, there is a good chance my solution will be your solution. Maybe your top just doesn't work, but below I had allll these things not work for me and just one fuse controlled all of them.

My convertible top would not work at all (it was in the up position when it "broke" thank goodness).

My trunk would not pop open with the remote, nor with the release leveler located in the car or the handle in back of the trunk. I had to use the key every time.

My gas door remained unlocked (thank goodness it didn't "break" in the locked position).

My interior lights did not come on when I pulled my key out of the ignition.

The solution? Replace fuse #24 which is for the "Central Convenience Electrical System". The amps is 20. My fuse was blown!

Now, EVERYTHING works..., I feel like I have a new car! I've been driving around with this problem for 4 or 5 months!

I experienced the same symptoms on my 2003 A4 Cabriolet.

Soft Top Cannot be used at this time
Trunk would not release with remote or with driver door release; only key worked. Fuse 30 looked OK for top.

It was fuse 24 Twenty amp fuse blown.

I have a A4 Cabrio '05.
I have tried the above advice and changed the fuse (no.24) but it still doesnt work. Can anyone help please?
I am in Mississauga, Ontario.
Also, the plastic emergency key for the roof (found in the fuse box) is broken at the tip from previous owner!!!! I cant even lock down the top and its gonna rain for the next two days. I have NO GARAGE to park it.

Where can I take it (not AUdi main dealer plz......I could never afford their advice let alone the repairs, Lol.).

There is a possibility that your roof simply got out of sync. The fix may be as simple as closing it down manually and lock it. The roof openning/closing cycle will then reset itself. It happenned to me twice in 4 years with my 2006 S4 Cab. First time was when I stopped the roof operation in mid cycle to answer the phoneI have no idea what had happenned the second time but I was happy to just reset it.

As for the roof locking tool, I am afraid there is nothing you can do without one. Try contacting a scap yards, they can't be that expensive...
Other than that, maybe a fellow member in the GTA can do it for you...
I would suggest you still get that tool for the future.

 

Did you ever find a replacement for your emergency key for the roof??
I called Audi to get mine replaced today and they said $400, but I've had no luck finding them for sale anywhere else.

I need help. I have an A4 Cabriolet. I purchased it used and want to open the top. I had a mechanic explain how, but I forgot. .The button in the car only opened it slightly. The mechanic says to open a lever in the trunk??? He says top is working fine but, can someone please tell what lever in the back to use so I can open my top??? Thank you so much! I appreciate all the help!
