Default considering 2002 a4

I'm considering buying a used 2002 A4 3.0 Quattro (automatic). The only thing I'm unsure about is that it has 206k kms. I've heard that if the owner was taking good care of the car it should last for a lot longer, but if they weren't then around this time there would be alot of costly repairs to be made. The guy says he purchased it used from an audi dealership 3 years ago, and just had it inspected. He also says he replaced the rear brake pads and rotors, as well as the valve cover gaskets. I'm just wondering what you guys would do here, this would be my first car and I don't want to buy a lemon. Thanks!

Cameron.

Regardless of what he says, you should have it looked at.

i say for something with that high mileage the price better be significantly lower. if not i would just wait and find another one.

What's the asking price for the car?

My gut instinct would be to pass on a car with that much mileage. However, if the car is in decent shape you may be able to pick it up for next to nothing ($$ wise). He's not going to have a line up of people beating down his door to buy a car with over 200K's on it. If you can get it for really cheap than it might be worth it. A car with that kind of mileage will have problems and Audi's (like all German cars) can be expensive to maintain.

its $10k. One thing that I have found though is that here in Nova Scotia, all brands of cars are much more expensive than in Quebec and Ontario. Most of the 2002 A4s (even the 1.8t models) with around 150k are priced around $14-$15k. I would really have to do some extensive searching to find another 2002 A4 3.0 Quattro (in NS) for this price regardless of the amount of kms.

Well, if you check: vmrcanada.com, it'll give you an idea of what resale values should be. For this car, and mileage, depending on options, $10K may be a little high. I agree though, I've been looking since January, in Alberta, and there are very few B6 A4's for under $14K. Struck a deal on an '01 A4 1.8T Quattro, Premium and Sport packages and only 105K km. $8600 Pick it up tomorrow morning.

First, I want to say that for a first car, this is a very nice choice! You'll love it! I can't get enough of my 3.0!
I'd say keep looking around for a bit. I spent 3 months looking for A4s specifically. I found an excellent deal and was so glad that I'd waited.
I paid $15,500 for an 04 A4 3.0 Quattro with 76,000 km, and everything inside and out is in perfect condition. I cannot find 1 "ding" anywhere, and every feature works perfectly. Tires are new as well! My advice, keep looking, and when you find "the" one, you'll know!
