cold weather starts
 

sorry, not even fall yet, but I just bought an 03- A-4 1.8t.
love it but was just curious and wanted to ask all the experienced owners.
how is the audi in -35 weather.....can u get block heaters for them??
or do they just start like a dream (say yes)
just curious, don't worry, cold weather still months away.:D

Personally i've never had a problem, my '99 starts like a dream no matter what the weather. If you have a well maintained car you should have no problems.

I have no clue about the block heater question, maybe someone else can answer that. There were problems with earlier Audi's (pre 95) having cold start problems but that has largely gone away.

my 1.8TGTi has no trouble. I live in Edmonton and works at the hospital where parking does not allways allow for "plug ins"
had to start her after a VERY LONG delivery one morning (>6h in -30) - no problems only the heater inside the car took about 30 min to heat up my feet....plus i had no seat heaters in that !!

Hope the 2.0T FSI engine in my MK5 GTi can be as good

Oh by the way --- regarding the block heater. i spoke to AUDI re that a few years ago. They recommend an oilpan heater instead. Some long explanation re why not a block heater ensued which i cant remember though. It is a cheap addition though - sounded to me like merely a heater stuck to the underside of the oilpan:rolleyes:

cant remember the exact amount but it seems like i paid less than 200bucks to have it installed - dont quote me - that was many years back

The oil pan heater works great. I live in northern Ontario and we see temperatures down to -45C, I use synthetic oil and the oil pan heater and the car has always started.

Don't pay to have it done, I installed one on my girlfriend's Jetta in about 30 minutes, you just stick it on and run the power cord to the top.
