B6 wipers moving really slowly

Hi all,

My wipers are moving really slowly right now, they were working fine on Saturday on a drive down Hwy 400. When I woke up on Sunday and took the car out, I hit the wipers to clear some of the salt off the windshield. I was sort of lazy that morning and didn't completely clear the ice off the wipers before driving. Anyway, the wipers break free of the ice, but are now moving really slowly sometimes even pausing in the middle of the windshield.

What could be causing this? Is this some like high-torque mode that I've somehow gotten myself into or am I looking at new wiper motors now?

Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Not a mechanic, drawing on experience.

I had a 99 VW Passat before, probably very similar wiper system. I had the same problem.

It would move very slowly. A combination of close tolerances and dirt, Removing the wipers and cleaning every thing solved the problem. It will return in two years.

Keep in mind that oil attracts dirt. Use very sparingly.

Alex.

The brackets may have snapped... not sure You also have a little control arm on the wiper that speeds it up and down on first function have you tried that? What happens when they are on full blast?

hey everyone! thanks for the suggestions and replies...

so my friend's driving my car yesterday and before i could tell him not to use the wipers (afraid the motor might go or something); he hits the stalk... and they work fine now. so i don't know what was done to fix it other than to say my car sorted itself out by itself...

so my solution next time this happens: wait a day or two and try again.
