B6 3.0 oil change details

Hello all,

Does anyone do their own oil changes for the B6 3.0 Audi? If you do, can you let me know if there are any tricks that I should know about. Also where do you buy your filter. I see that K&N model HP2004 or Fram model PH8994 are both for this car and can be bought at part source. Can you also tell me how much oil goes into these motors. To summarize:

1. Tips and tricks for the oil change on this car
2. Where do you buy the oil filter
3. How much oil is needed. I see that the recomended viscosity is 5W-30, is that what you use.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am due for an oil change and want to get it done as soon as possible.

Thank you in advance for your time.

GH

Don't know about B6/V6 car, but I would buy Mann, Mahle or Bosch

Other guys will probably answer about oil and oil change tips.

$42 is approx double what the stealership charges for an OEM Oil Filter.

Be sure to purchase new aluminum washer for the drain plug as it should be replaced every oil change to ensure no drips.

I would never use Fram or anything other than OEM, Mahle, Mann filters. Filter is easily accessible when engine lower sound dampener panel is removed. Be sure to re-install all panel hardware and / or replace missing mounting hardware.

3.0L uses ~6.5L engine oil. Mobil1 Synthetic 5W30 is a good option but of course there are several good synthetic brands to choose from. You can run 10W30 in the summer if you wish but definitely 5W30 for winter.

thanks! I was also going to order a set of discs from that website, but i heard before that there are two different widths that are available for teh 3.0. Now i dont know if i am getting the correct product. I called the dealership, but they dont want to give me the information they said to come in and they would do it...
