my 2002 audi a4 quattro messed up today:(.. i drove to work, parked it... when i went back at lunch, i noticed the top row of pixels on my deck wasnt working:confused:...

is this a common problem? and how can i fix it? i dont want to dish out around a grand for a new unit because it works fine, just the top row of pixels arent. :???:

thank you in advance for your help :)

looks like just the led is gone, it's probably more trouble to take the whole thing apart to see if you can fix it and risk breaking something else. i would just live with it, but that's coming from someone who doesn't listen to the stereo when driving.

Damn, its probably one of the leads on the ribbon cable that goes to the readout. I don't know of a way to fix it without taking it apart...maybe its an excuse to upgrade the headunit?

Re: Audi audio screen? broken?

dsq: that was actually my second option if i couldnt get it fixed :(

marko_tomas13: i did a bit of research online and found out that it probably is the ribbon like you said, but i think taking apart the actual LCD screen and putting it back together would be a hassle and I couldnt possibly match the stock quality, better leave it to a professional

i was actually in the process of buying an external dvd player and headrest screens because i didnt want to loose the original look and functionality of the stock player. ill give audi a call and see what the stealership says.

if anyone can help me with this, please do so :D

and thank you for those that commented

Re: Audi audio screen? broken?

No matter who you are fixing ribbon cable leads takes a steady hand and a ton of patience...if you try to open it up yourself best of luck and hopefully the stealer doeesn't charge you more than an arm and a leg to look at it.

There are a lot of aftermarket options that do a really good job of preserving the red and black stock look thankfully if it comes down to that.
