Sup all, I live in the southeast USA and we have a huge shortage on gas right now. The best I could find was 89 octane midgrade gas. I always put 93 octane in my 02 a4 3.0. I decided to fill my tank with the 89 since it was all I could get better than 87. I get quick soft ticking (like a machine gun shooting green peas) when I open my hood with her running. I'm sure this will go away once I can find some premium. I heard not to use octane booster in audi's. Infact I hear the only fluid I should add to my fuel tank is fuel system cleaner after every oil change. Is this true about the booster and fuel system cleaner? Should I drive around a lot to run gas down and find premium to dilute the mid-grade with? Or just drive like normal until we get premium consistently? What do you guys think? Thanks a lot and hope you all don't have to deal with high test gas shortages.

 

that niose is probably engine knock you have a knock sensor which retards the timing to aviod pre detotnation does the ticking still occur if you rev the motor?... most octane boosters contain lead and other crap which you dont want in your fuel so dont do it plus they are overpriced.

 

I will check for the knock while reving. Is a full tank of this garbage gas ok just once for the knock sensor or mechanism? Should I run it down to half and them get premium? It is probably a good idea NOT to get on it while driving with the dirty Assoline in the engine, right? Chaos, do you happen to know of any good octane boosters or fuel injector cleaners for Audi's?
