A4 CVT Issue?

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and hoping someone out there can help me...

I have a 2004 A4 Cabriolet with a CVT transmission, at low speed (usually from a stop) up to 40km/h or so I hear a low pitch whine, it seems to go away once I'm over 40km/h, but it could be drowned out by the engine noise. Yesterday morning when I was driving over a bridge I put it in neutral (at 25km.h) and the noise was still there?? Any ideas?

I brought it in to 2 shops last week any they could not figure it out.

One other issue I am having, when travelling at 80km/h and I load it up to pass the turbo kicks in but then I get a slight hesitation and it seems to go back and forth between turbo/no turbo.

Thanks in advance for your help!

So was I!!

I brought it in to a local transmission shop (called first to see if they worked on CVT's!) They stripped it down and found out it was the roller bearing on the main input shaft... new bearings, seals, input shaft, fluids, labor & $4700 - it runs like new! It was in the shop for 2 weeks.

There really needs to be a class action lawsuit against Audi for these transmissions, Nissan fessed-up and has repaired or paid for repairs to their deffective CVT's. They also increased the term of coverage to 10 years!

Now it's time for my timing belt - 115k

OUCH!!!!! It hurt me enough when i had to pay $2200 for the Transmission Control Module which went bonkers on me!!! Ive got 190km on my B6 CVT Avant and its still driving like a dandy and so far i havent had any other big problems besides the TCU, yet!!! but awesome milage with the CVT and better power than regular 1.8T automatic B6s, left a couple of those in the dust!!

atleast you got it fixed and dont have to worry about it anymore!!

You tested your AUDI at over 200 km/hr, didn't you?

I found that this is the major problem with all the bearings. The car can go that fast but the bearings are not designed for this and once they overheat they loose the plastic seals that are around them. It applies to the wheel bearings as well.

$4700 to fix a low pitch whine under 40km? i would have just lived with it... thats ridiculous.
