Smile 2002 a4 3.0

Just purchased a 2002 3.0 A4 manual gearbox, beautiful smooth V6 engine, very happy, love the car

It is lowered and has a Oettinger body kit, looks sharp, but front mesh grill is missing, looking at the other mesh parts (either side around fog lights), they are made of plastic and have become brittle, easily snapped, i assume this is due to age ?, I have tracked down replacement mesh grills from supplier in US - $140 US + shipping.

As i am somewhat handy i wondered if i could fabricate some for my self, thinking of buying a galvanised metal wire mesh, cutting to size and priming, painting, thinking these may last longer, be sturdier than paying for replacement plastic kit ?

Has anyone done something similar ? or is there another manufacturer with grill that will fit, or i can cut to size ? (space for mesh grill is larger than standard A4 (will S4 fit ?)

I really need to get something in there to protect the rad, any suggestions or advice would be very welcome.

i used chicken fence wire for my kercher kit, the idiots who put my kit on punched a hole in the front, so i went to home depot, bought 2 meters of the chicken wire, it was like 5 bucks, put it on and sprayed it with flat black, literally cost 5 bucks, the flat black i had lying around, i used high heat paint, cause i sprayed the rad as well.

Thanks Biglip,
I ended up doing the same thing, except we had some snow up here in Vancouver, and i lost the centre grill crossing a few ruts in the snow !
also the 1/4 inch chicken wire i used was like invisible from a distance, not what i really wanted, and proofed to be a little fragile.
I now have version .2 same idea, but i did it with some thicker grill like galvanized wire, like a metal grid, diagonal wire shaped, but a lot thicker (i think they use it for dry walling ?) my neighbor was throwing it out, so got it for free, sprayed with flat black, looks really sharp !
