'05 a4 1.8 cvt

...greetings!...took my car into the Audi dealership for the 80K servicing. Mine just turned 74K. The loaner was an '11 A4, Quattro with all the toys!

Although I love my '05...the loaner was simply amazing!! I was tempted to buy it on the spot! Couldn't get over how well it handled...and then I realized...ah!!...Quattro!!...sweet!

Re: '05 a4 1.8 cvt...trouble lights!!??

...as indicated, had my '05 serviced at the Dealership...just turned 74K and had them perform the 80K service. Over the previous couple of month or so, noticed the "check engine" light would come on at start up and the "transmission selector PRNDS light" on the dash would flash also on start up.

However the lights would come on intermittently...I could go weeks with no lights and then they would come on for a day and then no problem. Given the car was running perfectly, I expected the issue was faulty sensors...so had the dealership check it out at my expense...$130/hr.

When my service consultant called to inform me it was not a faulty sensor issue, but Control Unit Assembly, Thermostat and Gasket, coolant J-plug, PVC System. The estimate came to $3355 plus tax. Needless to say, I was shocked! How could this be!!??...this is an Audi with 74K!!

Has anyone else had the same experience?...if so, what were you able to do!?...many thanks!

Re: '05 a4 1.8 cvt

Welcome to the world of a six year old Audi. At six mine has given me at least four $1000.00 dollar fixes. Having said that....if I would have been in the position to fix them myself(was on long road trips in the States) they would have been in the 100 to 500 dollar range, so for a six year old car that is so fun the drive and paid for.....not bad. Find yourself a reliable mechanic...not dealership, who charge set rates for repairs, and a good supplier of parts and the bills, although frequent, will not hurt so much! The only other option is to buy new again and live with the comfort of warranty!!

Re: '05 a4 1.8 cvt

My experience with Audidealers ships is always get a second opinion.

Go to an independant audi/vw shop and get them to look at it without telling them the problem.

Also their prices will be much better then what they charge. Usually labour is $80-90/hr vs $130 that Audi charges.
