Default Rough idle for 2001 B5

When I have my car idling in drive, there is a noticeable vibration all over my car, especially from the steering wheel. It's idling at 800 RPM's and my car never feels like it's going to stall.

I have put in gas treatment and just checked my spark plugs, which are fine. My check engine light is on and I was told it is for my secondary air injection pump. Is that the reason?

Any ideas?

Jason

is the engine moving a lot in the engine bay? can you hear it missfiring at all? if not, im gonna say possible engine mounts.

like janzen said. Either misfiring or bad engine mounts.

Your SAI pump will cause an CEL if it stopped working, but so will a misfire. Get it scanned. If there's no misfire, its likely bad engine mounts.

I don't think there is a misfire happening, my performance is still great. It doesn't do it in neutral if that means anything. I'll get it checked. Are engine mounts pricey?

Thanks guys

put it in drive, foot on brake foot on gas and torque the engine while someone or you are looking at the mounts, see if the engine moves more than usual and if any mounts are broken.

perfectly fine. its actually a way of testing the torque converter as well. do this all the time to find broken mounts. its a little more difficult if you have a manual trans.

Motor mounts are fine. Dealership looked at it. Said they haven't been able to find the cause for this in the B5's and it's common. Really? in 10 years since they have been out, they haven't been able to find a solution? Brutal.

Any other suggestions?

i had the same problem and it was this little net that's located in the bottom part of the air intake box. there was a think layer of build-up making it hard for the engine to breathe, even with a brand new air filter... if not id have those mounts double checked, ud be surprised how many audi dealers have no clue what they're doing. I can tell u for sure its not the secondary air pump

Took apart the intake etc and there was no visable blockage. When I start driving the vibration disappears.
