Default No heat coming from vents

Hi all,

I'm posting a new topic on this because I did not find a similar post yet. I currently have no heat coming from the interior vents in my car. It only blows out cold air, and maybe mildly warm air at random times if I am lucky.

Here is a list of things I have checked already:

-in & out hoses form heater core are hot
-servos seem to be moving for hot & cold (checked under glove compartment)
-coolant in coolant tank is clear and not muddy
-engine temperature appears to be fine

Attached is an image of my dash when the car has been running for over 20 minutes. Any insight on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I had something similar with mine happen. It was the heater core getting plugged up. I would get a little heat when the car was moving along but in stop & go traffic it was very chilly. Had a local VW/Audi mechanic clean it out thoroughly and all is good now. I've heard that this is fairly common.

If the heater core was clogged, wouldn't only one heater hose be hot?

Maybe it's only partially clogged. That's why you get intermittent heat.

I will flush out the heater core and give an update to this issue.

Thanks rodman71 for sharing your insight.

You can do whats already been mentioned but i may have another theory,

Your blower motor under your dash forces the air through the ribs of the heater core hence giving you heat. It may not be the internals of the heater core, but the ribs clogged with dirt and dust.. As sealed as they come, leaves and dirt does get in there and it could be blocking the air going through it which would result in no heat.

Another option is even though your car temp may be good.. It could also be a stuck open thermostat.

You engine temp is not fine. You should be at 90 degrees even not 93.
I do not understand why your in and out hoses are hot.
Try this: take some big pliers and press on these hoses repeatedly and check either heat is coming inside after you did it.
I do not think this will help thou. Your engine temperature is too high and this tells me that your system is plugged. You need to flush the system to proceed further. Also how is the pressure in the hoses? They should be really hard.

Check your water pump and around. You are looking for a couple of drops of antifreeze around it. These couple drops will drop the pressure just enough to loose heat inside. Under no condition add radiator stop leak to it.

Did you add radiator stop leak to it?

The engine temperature is square on 90. The picture is angled slightly. Where is the water pump and how do I get to it? I have not added anything to the radiator.

Do a good system flush first.
