new vehicle need some help
this is my second attempt as an Audi owner(had 1989 90Q), just purchased 2001 A4 wagon 2.8 5 speed.
i need some help getting a second key cuz it only came with one and no remote, so what is the best way of getting one as of price.
Also if you can point me some links about common problems, oil types etc.
Thanks in advance

As for the second key, the easiest thing to do I have found is to go to the dealer. they can cut it, program it, and get it all set up. As for getting the transponder and FOB, check on e-bay for an uncut one, or just buy it from the dealer. Easiest solution, you pay a bit more, but it saves time and hastles in the end.
As for common problems with the 2.8 engine, there is a bit of a long list. Coil packs (biggest PITA Audi ever made) the 2.8 coil pack is ONE SOLID UNIT. If you ever have a misfire issue, look to this first, and be prepared to slap out 250+ for a new one. Intake and vacuum leaks, and the all to dreaded tie rods and control arms. Valve covers leaking is another issue, and usually O2 sensors. These are the usual things with almost all audis.
As for engine oil, stick to a full senthetic if its in your budget (Liqui Moly 5W40 is my preference) or you can use Castrol Syntec 5W40. I have never had any major issues with my old 2.8 using these oils. My best advice to any Audi owner is to get your hands on Vag Com as soon as you can just in case. It saves time, money and helps you diagnose the issues faster without having to pay 200-500 for a diagnosis unless its a mystery issue. I can not post links yet (need 5 forum posts) but Vaglinks.com, and Ross-tech.com have alot of usefull info for you. Hope it helps!

Re: new vehicle need some help
Just have to be careful with the vacum lines, a lot of problems are caused by them. Also switch to a good synthetic oil, I personally recommend and only use Royal Purple 5w40. The 2.8L is a fairly reliable car when it comes to tyhe Udi lineup, but you will still have the usual problem:
- rear bearings
- front control arms and tie rods
- air pump, etc...
Msg me if you have any specific questions and if you need any parts check out my web site,

Re: new vehicle need some help
The 1.8t had more issues with the coilpacks than the 2.8 did, which was on recall.
- wheel bearings
- control arms (just upgrade with an aftermarket once the OEM wear out.)
- LCD screen fades
- ABS module

Re: new vehicle need some help
I have a 1998 with 306k on it...
- rear bearings
- timing belt change (with all the rest - water pump, thermostat, tensioner)
- LCD fades (there are repair options - not cheap)
- ABS doesnt work
- cruise control doesnt work
- Heated seats not completely working (drivers side)
- centre console broken
- drink holders broken
Similar to most...
