AudiA4?

Hi guys thanks for looking at my thread like the title says im new to the Audi world and would like to know if the car im looking at is worth it. I have a manual BMW 328 and its the same year as the audi im looking at 2000. Thing is that this car has a service engine light and I havent gotten the chance to get codes pulled on it, but the thing that worries me is the clutch this is what happens: When engaging a gear its smooth its not hard to get into and out of a gear, but when releasing the clutch pedal it engages at the very top maybe the last inch or so. This seems weird to me, and i'd like to know if this is normal for this car or if this is a sign of a toasted clutch.

The car is a 2000 Audi A4 Quattro 1.8t 5 spd manual with 185xxxkm's

I want to be very clear on one thing when the car shifts from one gear to the other there is no grinding, and there is no slipping at any rpm. The only thing that worries me is the fact that the clutch only engages at the very top max two inches.

I just bought my '04 and I've noticed the same thing.
The clutch throw is WAY longer on the Audi than my old corolla GTS, and it also seems to fully engage at the top third or so of the pedal play.
I too am fairly new to this game, although it feels fine to me.
Hope this alleviates some worry, but I also wouldn't mind hearing from an Audi pro as well.

mines the same been like that for years not so much the last inch but its very far in comparison to a newer bmw

I have the exact same question.
My bimmer (which I had for some time) releases about 2" of the floor and the audi (which I just got) releases about 2" from resting position. It is completely the opposite.
Does anyone know for sure if this is normal?

On most cars you can adjust where it catches. Sometimes its easy to adjust it, im not too sure on the audi since im in the process of buying one, but you can adjust the clutch button height, which should be right underneath the pedal
