ya you will be ready to go offroading if you dont lower it.

Unless, you have the ultrasport suspension already.

I hate lower. My car bought with aftermarket lowering and rear big spoiler. ground clearance is only about 12cm. it drive like a honda not audi. and my bumper cover lip and belly cover are already gone because car was too low. every since it get in the undergrand garage, it'll scratch the bumper once more. I bought a quattro for safe drive in snow, but it's can hardly do, because if the snow/ice bank was too deep, it'll ruin the underbody of the car, oil pan already been fixed twice, don't know what's next.

And how come you think 18"rim will jack the car up? get thinner tire, make it as closer as possible diameter as factory.

Goto Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels and follow their suggestions.
More importantly than the look, make sure you dont screw up the gearing with the wrong tire/wheel combination. Tirerack will tell you what is recommended for the Audi for each rim size.
