Exclamation Need help putting the A4 in one piece

Hi,

Recently I was looking to buy an A4 off somebody, but instead I found a better deal at a salvage yard....decent shape, needs engine, tranny and lil body work.....keeps me busy 'til spring ....
--I found couple of engines with different codes AEB and ATW , looking for the 1.8t-ters.......how do I know which one is good for the ride? or if both are....which one is better in your opinion....I know...kinda stupid question to ask for most of you but I need to clear it out ...

Has anybody heard of a 6 sp tranny for 2000 A41.8QT?...

Please share your tips if you have rebuilt an 1.8T engine before...all help is appreciated....

Thanks in advance,

Alex.

Hi
That's quite a project you got there! Try to get a late model engine (amb) and ecu. This way, you'll have more modding options. The AEB engine uses regular throttle system. After that (ATW,AMB) all A4 use throttle-by-wire.

Good luck.

When I lost hope that somebody would help me out in this forum.....thanks for the reply, luckly I haven't gotten to the mechanical part yet, still working on the body, a bit, every now and then; I still have time to look around for a good engine......

I hear that b5 tends to have electrical problems, some say that jump starting to car blows fuses in the system.
Do you know of any good electrical systems, wires and fuses, to use aside from the OEMs?

Thanks in advance,

Alex.

Hi

I think that most of the electrical problems come from water on the computer/wiring. Drains in the battery compartement get clogged, and water makes it's way in the car through the firewall. You might have more problems with vaccum lines. A vaccum leak might make the car run like sh*t, and the stock hoses dry up fairly quickly.

The transmission swap is feasable, but you will have to change the rear diff also. I wish I could find a 6 speed tranny for mine, but the used one are hard to find.

and yeah, if you can find a 2.0L, go for it :300hp and lots of torque with a k04!!!
