need advice on purchasing a 97 a4 with high km's
ok,
I've been wanting an a4 for 5or 6 years now.
I live in calgary and am found a private sale for a 97 a4 1.8t quattro. it has 234 k on ith odometer.
here is what the ad says:
--------------------------------------------------------
1997 Audi A4 1.8T
gold color
tan leather seats
CD player
wires are ready for subs
A/C
power windows
power sunroof
234kms
lady driven
great car, and excellent on gas
18" rims (some curb marks)
excellent in the snow!
Need to sell this month because I am moving. I will put pictures up this weekend, because I am out of town right now.
$5000 OBO
---------------------------------------------
well.. I'm hoping I would get from you guys what I should look for in the car. what strouble spot are in the 97 1.8t, and suggest if I should buy it or not.
so far I only had a couple email back and forth and so far this is what I got:
-key lock cylinder is damaged from an attempted breaking.
- no accident
-automatic
-timing belt changed at the dealership 2-3 years ago
-2nd owner
This is what I know so far.
let me know what you guys think.
any help is apprieciated. if I should walk away be brutal and let me know. I'll eventually get myself an a4 if not this one.
Thanks ahead of time

Finally got the vin. it'd be great if someone could check for me.
Thanks ahead

My biggest fear is the turbo charger. I've never owned a car with a turbo before and am afraid of having to fix or replace it, I've hear it can cost a pretty penny
Thanks ahead

Has it been changed on this car before?

Re: need advice on purchasing a 97 a4 with high km's
Thanks Black_RS4, car look clean.
no the turbo hasn't been changed. that's what's keeping me from buyin the car. I know how to maintain and deal with regular engine stuff but turbos I know nothing about. I think I'm probably going to pass on this, just because of the uncertainties of the turbo.
well the search goes on. Thanks for your help. I'll probably back soon asking your guys opinion about another a4.

Re: need advice on purchasing a 97 a4 with high km's
Personally, I wouldn't go with an old 1.8T. Go for the Quattro instead. I've had mine for about 8 years now and it's pure gold. You're right to be worried about the turbo. You can easily get a 97 2.8 quattro for $5k, and let me tell you, it's a great car. It's not the fastest car in the world, but it has power when you need it and it's reliable...go for a 2.8!
