Misfiring & Potential Catalytic Converter Problem
Hey, I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with the problems I'm experiencing with my A4. My baby is a 2001 A4 1.8T quattro and just recently while driving i felt a minor vibration on the steering wheel while going at a speed of approx. 110 km/h. The next thing I noticed is that the car was not accelerating as quickly as it normally does. I noticed that I had to press the gas further than normal to speed up. I got off the highway and pulled over on the side of the road. I turned the car off for a minute and turned it back on. The symptoms had only gotten worse, I practically had to floor it to get it up to traffic speed. I figure the car was misfiring. Later that day my father took the car out (I told him it was drivable, just take it slow) to a store not too far away and on his way he smelt a strong burning scent. Turns out the catalytic converter (or so we think) was red hot. He managed to cool the car down and headed home. On his way home the same problem occurred and again he allowed the car to cool before bringing the car home.
I haven't driven the car since...
This happened yesterday and left me heartbroken, if anyone knows anything about this please write a reply.

Yea, while the car is being driven the check engine light flashes. While the car is stopped (At a red light or for whatever reason) the check engine light is solid.

Yea it seems like its a coilpack problem. I got it diagnosed yesterday and the scanner pick up on the following problems:
8 Faults Found:
18014 - Rough Road/Engine Torque Signal from ABS: Electrical Malfunction
P1606 - 35-00 - -
16839 - EVAP System: Large Leak Detected
P0455 - 35-00 - -
16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0300 - 35-00 - -
16687 - Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
P0303 - 35-00 - -
17766 - Cylinder 2 Ignition Circuit: Open Circuit
P1358 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
17769 - Cylinder 3 Ignition Circuit: Open Circuit
P1361 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
16686 - Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
P0302 - 35-00 - -
16685 - Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
P0301 - 35-00 - -
Would you or anyone know where I can get my hands on a coilpack? Also, would anyone know where I can find the Evap canister? Again its a 2001 A4 1.8T quattro.

Thanks, Chaos & kf3506. Anyone know what I can do about the Evap system? Its detecting a Large leak apparently. The code is:
16839 - EVAP System: Large Leak Detected
16839 - EVAP System: Large Leak Detected

Re: Misfiring & Potential Catalytic Converter Problem
Turns out I had to replace two of the coil packs. Cylinders 2 & 3 needed a new coil pack. Just for anyone else out there who may experience a similar problem, the coil packs on these cars seem to come with coil packs that have a code written on them that ends with an "L". I got new coil packs form a local VW dealer and the code ends with an "R". I recall reading of others having similar coil pack failures with the older "L" versions and replacing them with the newer "R" versions.
