Instrument Cluster 2001 a4 Need HELP!!!
This is kinda of an awkward situation. I went to purchase a used cluster for my car because my lcd has lost pixels. I plugged in the used cluster and it didn't work properly (car started beeping) abs air bag and the flashing ! came on. When I replaced it with my old cluster the lights stayed on, my rpm gauge no longer works, and the right signal doesn't flash. I put a code reader on the car and no codes came up. Manual describes the abs and flashing light as break problem/ low brake fluid level. Break fluid seems to be fine.
I hope someone has an idea as to what I can do to fix this problem and return it back to the way it was before plugging in the other cluster (which was also a car that was in an accident. I think this may be one of the problems) If you have any ideas please e-mail me
at jnitschmann@hotmail.ca or respond to this post. Thanks!!

That's almost impossible. I need to know how or what I need to re-set my instrument cluster so that it works properly. I.e. RPM gauge doesn't work anymore, lcd screen won't come off of "press clutch to start engine" right signal doesn't flash in cluster.

Think the first thing I'd do is get a read of what the coding is on the instrument cluster (Module 17). Removing and replacing with the "new" one has clearly messed something up and you need to get all the components resynchonised. Don't remember if the B5 for that year had an immobiliser but I don't think they did.
MIleage reading on the cluster will be different but there's nothing you can really do to fix that. I've read of hacks being done by some folks but certainly the offical Audi position is can't change odometer reading once a c;luster has gone past about 100 mi / 160 km.

Sorry if this is asking stuff you may have already done
... was the new cluster from exactly the same model year? I recall 2000 - 2001 there where some changes, but the clusters looked the same.
... Are you sure all the connectors are plugged into the right locations

oh! one more thing I forgot
The cluster has to be CODED to the vehicle if I remember correctly (been a while). They all have the same cluster, regardless of options, and just get programmed to reflect the car options including
1.8T or V6
Auto/Manual
You will need a VAG tool to code the cluster correctly or it won't work properly in the vehicle.
