Question Ignition Coil

I was told by a mech that my ignition coils need to be replaced which would fix my issue with accelerating. So I bought four and replaced them. The car ran beautifully but a week later they went again because the car is doing everything it once did when they originally broke. What could be causing my iginition coils to break?

Default Re: Ignition Coil

Make sure that your spark plugs have the correct spacing, if the spacing is off it could be requiring more power than the coil can create and possibly overload the coil.

After this is done put in your new coils and see if the spark plug makes a spark. I wouldn't recommend this if you don't have mechanical experience, so be careful and for safety reasons ask a mechanic to do this. If you get shocked it will feel like you're going to die, but you won't since the AMPs are very minimal. Take out the coil with the spark plug in it and hold it up to the top of the block (large metal part of the engine) to create a ground. A spark means everything is working. Try this with all the spark plugs. If they all work, everything should be fine.

I don't see how the wiring could affect your coils... Perhaps the battery is old and isn't giving enough "umph"?

Hope this helps,
Nick
