On my 1.8T I do:
- ~ 25L /100km when accelerating normally (not flooring it)
- ~ 11 to 12L when cruising in town
- ~ 8L when cruising on the motorway.
A bit higher during the winter (350km to 420km on a refill), lower in the summer (450km on a refill).

Your 40L/100km seems huge.

thanks I figured it was high. I put in some fuel injection cleaner and I think it has helped.
my highway mileage is just fine..

I did a scan myself and it it telling me "catyltis below threshold bank 1"
..maybe I need a new Cat or O2 sensor

would a defective Cat cause poor mileage?..or should I assume it needs a O2 sensor?

Yea i've been havin some bad milage aswell I tanked 40 the other day all it lasted was 200km and I didn't even drive it hard. My question is can I clean my current air filter like vacuum it or do j need to buy a new one another question i have is what else can I do other then fuel injector cleaner. Would octane booster give better milage even though I use 91 or 94 octane all the time

davidj24,

200km on 40l is really bad.......sucks.
Air filter u should buy new one ;cause its matarial paper one.
U can try fuel injector cleaner but first what u should do:
- scan u computer system and check pendings codes
- check spark plugs, air filter, CTS, AIT, O2, MAF, timing belt, fuel filter etc.
