Horrible mileage - is this normal?

Re: Horrible mileage - is this normal?
After i did seafoam i actually get about 25 km extra on my tank, its alright.
Now it depends how you drive, i drive manual, lets see where you guys shift.
1- 3000
2-3200
3-2500-3000
4-2500-3000
This gets the optimum performance and gas millage in my opinion, about 10-20 % throttle ( Gas pedal depressed slightly shy of an .5-.8 inch. )
whats your driving style?
The 350 guy is just unbelievable!

Re: Horrible mileage - is this normal?
I use the Road Trip app on my itouch to track my gas usage and it's telling me my average is approximately 12L/100Km. I drive a 2009 3.2 A4 quattro with about 50/50 city/highway driving, and I like to push it once and a while.
This weekend I went to Blue Mountain and I noticed that my fuel usage was down to about 8.8L/100Km, so I suppose if I had less rush hour traffic to deal with, my usage would be better.

Just wondering how you guys who are quoting KM's per tank are figuring it out? Wouldn't you have to fill up with exactly the same # of litres left in the tank to be able to track mileage like that? Especially to be able to notice a 25km difference?

Re: Horrible mileage - is this normal?
1. Fill it up (full), write down liters of gas, LITERS
2. Write down number of kms from your trip counter and then reset it, KMS
3. Calculate CONSUMPTION = LITERS/(KMS/100)
4. Reset your Average gas consumption counter on the dash screen, just to compare with this calculation, mine is always very close to calculated value.
My last example:
I filled it up with 50.1 liters after 491 km so
Consumption = 50.1/4.91 = 10.2 lit/100 kms
All other ways (dash avg. consumption or kilometers left ) are not going to give you correct number.
I do this every single fill-up and it's a good indicator of potential troubles, of course, it also depends on your driving style, city/hwy ratio etc...
