To clarify this:
I do not support having a frontal collision at 200 km/hr. The post was to show how AUDI behaves during an accident, and how well it is designed.

Just because the car was made in Germany it doesn't mean it is safe in all conditions or accidents. A lot of people have died in German cars as well as Japanese or North American cars so it is not really where the car is made but how it was designed. Seeing pictures of a car after the accident and safety crews have been through with it doesn't always give you a good indication of how the car survived during the crash. The Germans used to be able to drive faster on their roads so their cars were always designed tougher but with crash standards being what they are today you may find that some of these newer Japanese or Korean cars may have better standards than your B5 - A4.

Speed alone doesn't kill, it is simply a factor because few people die in single car accidents when the car is parked. Speed with the combination of a poor driver (someone who doesn't really know how to control the car or worse someone who thinks they do when they don't) or a poorly maintained car or roadway or bad weather can certainly do the trick. You also get the other end of the problem, there are people who are too confident even if their car is safe and drive beyond the ability of the car and themselves and take out people this way.

If you are going to drive aggressively then you should track prep your car and drive it there, this is not something that should be done on public roads with other drivers. If you can't resist then you should limit yourself to open areas where you only take yourself out because safety rescue crews need something to do an some people seem to enjoy going to funerals. The greatest limiting factory in automotive safety is the nut that is connected to the drivers seat, this is the one that can make or break the deal.

People are funny, I know someone that refuses to wear the number one safety device ever created for the automobile known as the safety belt. This single device has been proven to save more lives in automotive history than any other device yet today there are still a lot of people that don't wear them, this I don't understand. Also, people die in all kinds of cars at much less speeds than those claimed in this thread so it is not just the speed of the collision because there are many other things going on. In a single collision there is the initial crash, then the crash of you hitting the safety restraints and then the crash of your internal organs hitting the inside of your torso so there are a lot of other things to take you out. Safety engineering is a complex science and a tough car is only the first step because it must also give so you don't take the full brunt of the collision.

I think that some of you do not understand how depraved and fooled we all are.
Dino speed limit is one thing, but it is not the end of it.
The people who decide give us the "Mambo Jambo" Jap cars and ban the other cars from importing to Canada. How come I do not see the following dealers:

Citroen
Peugot
Fiat
Reno
Alfa Romeo
Seat
Opel

I think somebody has to raise the issue sooner or later, because I am sick and tired of seeing these Toyota dealers all around.
I don't know how old you are but each of these marks other than Seat were actually sold in North America and the companies pull out of our market because they couldn't sell these cars over here. These are also usually smaller cars which are not as safe or as reliable so other than a few models you are not really missing anything. Keep in mind Audi is known for making safe cars just like BMW and MB but this doesn't mean all European cars are safe or reliable because they are not. I would take my Audi over anything currently produced from any of those in the list above.

Some Opel cars are actually made by GM or vice versa. I know this for a fact as my family had owned both an Opel Astra and a Chevy Optra at the same time and both cars had interchangeable parts!

It's hard to say as the Optra that my sister owned had the luxury package that included leather seats and all the bells and whistles one would want in a car. The Astra was a base model that had terrible seat support for someone with sciatic nerve problems! Performance wise, both cars shared the same 1600cc engine and both performed similarly. The Astra did however cost more to maintain due to the fact that it was a "Euro" car!!!

EDIT: In the "looks" department however, the Astra hands down (IMO) has the advantage!

Opel Astra

Chevy Optra

And how long was this sold for and is still for sale today? Was it ever for sale as an Opel? No, it was sold a GM product because people don't want to buy Opel's on this side of the pond. The last Opel I remember being sold as an Opel was the coupe from the 1970's and everything else has been rebadged. I am pretty sure GM sold its stake in Opel back to the German government and I think they are permanently banned from being sold in North America as part of this sale to ensure they don't make it back to our market and compete with the 'cars' GM makes.

I am not arguing that European makes don't make good cars but they certainly don't have the market share like VW or Audi. If it hasn't happen yet it won't be long before VW takes over from Toyota and becomes the worlds largest auto manufacturer so it shows the Europeans can do it but not all brands are the same. A lot of the cars in the list have a pretty bad rep for unreliability from the days they were sold here and people can take a while to forget.

a few months ago i was driving home after work and i almost ran over some stupid women talking on her cellphone, jay walking in a dark road with a posted speed limit of 80, just imagine if i took a second to change the radio station, honestly i would have felt no regret hitting her.

WHOA! Calm down!!!

Which part of the avatar were you offended with? The way it looked or is it because you are biased and searched for ways to attack me for posting that your statement was offensive? I was offended by your post due to the "Tactlessness" of it. That doesn't automatically mean that I was attacking you personally for saying what you said.

Now, I came into this forum NOT to pick fights but to express what my opinions are and maybe once in a while, try help out those that I could. I'm sure the mods would've suggested for me to change my avatar if it was even remotely close to being "a little offensive". But as I, you sir are entitled to your opinions!

Please, in the future, refrain from being overly aggressive and/or combatant towards anyone just because you don't agree with what they say. It is unprofessional, immature and a waste of the forums' space! Thank you and have a wonderful day!!!

EDIT: I was not implying my avatar towards anyone else as well, so therefore IT IS NOT OFFENSIVE!
