Your Car is probably starting to burn oil, wuts the mileage and since its a 96 im gonna assume you have the 12v 2.8.

I would rule out the egr valve all it does is control the amount of exhaust gas to go back into the cylinders which wouldnt create blue smoke. By the car having everything done to it do you mean the motor was rebiult? cause with that kind of mileage the piston rings could be leaking oil into the cylinders.

Go to Canadian Tire or some other parts place and pick up a liter of Lucas oil stabilizer i think its around $20 and on your next oil change or if your low on oil now add some just dont add more then the botttle says i think its someting like 50ml for every liter of oil in the motor. This stuff will increase oil pressure and seal up small leaks inside the motor. Or you can just change to a heavier wieght of oil when doing a oil change.

When does it smoke?

Cold engine after startup, hot engine while driving, random smoke, always or ?
