Default Door trim painting

Hey guys!?
Any suggestions on changing or painting those ugly black lower door trims, (as well as the black plastic on the bumpers) on B5????
its been bothering me for a while now and I'm thinking about painting it.
The guys at the paint store say it can be painted but I did that 10 years ago with my jetta, but the paint came off.
Any recommendations???

Meguires has a product called "magic Black" or "Back to black" something along those lines... Part Source sells it, works great, makes that faded black plastic look brand new painted black.

These trims can be painted, but it kinda depends on what end result you would like.

You could get it done professionally, of course, which would be far less work and probably look really close to your existing body color, or you could do it yourself.

The kicker with painting plastic is that you need to get paint that is specifically meant to paint it. If you just get auto paint, it wont have the properties to stick to plastic nearly as well. I've used plastic paints on various matte black surfaces on cars in the past, but I have never had the need to sand it or buff it up.

Anyone know if you can sand plastic paints/vinyl dyes with something like 2000 grit wet/dry sandpaper and use the regular rubbing compounds and such to give it a shine? They have to paint and shine Saturns somehow...

Now I'm curious too. I imagine some specialty auto parts places may have some ideas for you, or jump onto google.

There's a DIY in AudiWorld tech section for the lower trim and bumper skirts also. You sand lightly, then apply a plastic adhesion spray first, then the spay paint. It is a good tech article, but I think it looks a bit gay.Search ShokanCoachworks for used S4 lower sideskirts/doortrim and the front bumper cover and put them on.I'm sorry, it's VW Vortex that has the DIY for painting the trim, and AudiWorld has the DIY for the S4 trim.
