Default Is this common ? : Sagging Exhaust

Hey Guys,

A few days ago I started hearing a big thumping noise like metal banging against each other when I take a bump. And only on the rear left. This does not happen all the time only when I take large bumps or when the bump is taken by the rear left wheel.

Took it to my mechanic and he told me the exhaust hangers are worn out causing it to sag and hit against the Left axle(?) when taking bumps.

When he showed it to me it made sense because the exhaust was pretty loose on those hangers. And the hangers are rubber. Another ingenious Audi engineering !!!

How common is this ? Would replacing the hangers solve this problem.

Thanks

Many, many cars use rubber exhaust hangers. How else you would you keep the vibration of the exhaust from making noise?

My dad's 2000 A4 2.8 Quattro had the exhaust start to sag at 150k. Just needed to replace the rubber bushings.
