Whenever I had him check it, he always cleared the code. It would come on usually about a week later, normal driving, not driving it hard. It would just come on randomly, and would come on when the car is fully warmed up.
This is what my Corrado would do and I believe it had two issues, one the EGR valve would stick once in a while and two the temp sensor for the EGR system would set the CEL from time to time. I solved my problem by removing the vacuum line from the top of the EGR leaving everything else in place and plugged it and never got a CEL after that for the EGR.

It would be good to see the Audi code or one from VAG-COM or similar because it gives more detail than a generic OBD-II code. Without the exact code and the details associated with it then it is really hard to be more specific. Either the valve is lazy or one of the controls for it are not working which was listed in my first reply. There can be situations where a code may be triggered but the problem is something else so this may be one of those. If you have the actual code you could probably type this and the car into Google and I am sure it will bring up a lot of results because chances are if you have this problem someone else has as well.
