Unhappy b5 problems

ok got a a4 97 2.8 12V and here are some problems with the vehicle that i need to resolve.

no cruise: checked the module works, and tree works.

brakes: very soft and only brakes at the bottom of pedal, brakes are new and bleeded.

ABS: light isn't on, but under 10 km/h the abs kicks in even if none of the tires are locking up.

Idle: is wondering a little

steering feels heavy (maybe i need to just get more muscle)

need the location of the vacuum pump and need to know if a air leak can affect any of the following problems? also where is the vacuum pump located.

thanks for all the help and info in advance.

sounds like either one of your abs sensors on the wheels is gone foul or the system still needs to be bled more...

Or

check your vacuum pipes going to the brake booster for cracks... should come off of the intake/valve cover area...

for the abs I had the same studder at about 25km ish was getting the car check over at the shop and we found out it was one of the sensors on the wheel (they are press fit in) we pushed one sensor that was sticking out a tiny bit that the shudder is now gone.
wow sorry long winded
hope that helps with that problem

Cruise: Check for a vacuum leak at the module.

Brakes: Most likely the cup seals in the master have deteriorated. Is the brake fluid dark? You may also need to cycle the ABS module to properly bleed the system. Any leaks? How is the condition of the flex hoses?

ABS: Definitely a wheel speed sensor.

Steering: Is it whining as well? You could have a P/S leak, P/S pump is failing, winter tires?

Brakes: yeah i was afraid of the master going. i bled the whole system but what do you mean cycle the abs module? how do i do that? the flex hoses are in good condition.

ABS: how do i find out which sensor? is there a way of testing the system?

Steering: It has a little whine and yes i'm still on winter tires. any steering fluid will do right? or does it have to be a specific one from audi? because i was gona get the universal one at canadian tire. will it do?

You need a VAG-COM.

You need to log block 001 under the ABS Module and that will show you the km/h for all 4 wheel speed sensors. Drive around to see which one is bad...An Adaptation will cycle the module.

Audi recommends you use a Central Hydraulic Fluid in the P/S system. Try Pentosin CHF 11.S. Any 11.S standard fluid will do though. The soft compound in winter tires makes it more difficult to steer on warm dry pavement.
