Default Audi Newb

So..... Just got my first car ever. An 01 A4 manual.

I love this car so much. I have been riding motorcycles for a couple of years now and have been cut off a few too many times no belevie i will be able to ride for much longer without killing myself.

Anyways my car. It's a yankee import with about 100,000 miles on it. And it's got a few glitches.

1) the clutch seems to be going. The guy i bought it off of said that last time he got it serviced the dealership said the clutch has about 3 months left of moderate driving. So my question is do i go to the dealership and get an oem clutch or should i get an aftermarket one?

2) the window misters seem weak and infective. When i try to spray the windshield i get a half second mist that barley coats the window, and it will not continually spray if i hold the lever. The previous owner also disclosed this problem to me saying it didn't work when he bought the car, and thinks there might be something stuck in the tube. Any ideas?

3) The bumpers aren't flush. There is a small gap on the front left side and rear right side. If i push them together they will stay put until i drive then they slip again. I get the feeling that its just a matter of buying some little clips to resecure them but i really don't know. Any ideas?

4) It only came with one key and no remote. It seems like in 01 this was a well trimmed model. eg. Two tone leather interior, and Lumbar support adjustable seats, central locking. So i figure it was originally sold with at least 2 keys and maybe a remote. I'm pretty sure i can buy a new key, but can a new remote be programed to my car?

5) I am looking for some inexpensive horsepower gains, and from what I've read chipping is the way to go. I live in Vancouver and am not sure what shop to go to, or if chipping is the most cost affective rout for a few extra ponies?

Thanks for any help, and am thrilled to be part of the Audi community.

first off do you have a 2.8 or a 1.8t? you can get a new key fob at the dealer which can be programed either using vagcom or your existing working one. The clutch chioce depends really on how much power your going to mod your car to if its a 2.8 your basically stuck with going with a supercharger which will bring you around 300hp if its a 1.8 the options are almost endless so if your not hp crazy a stock clutch or a aftermarket clutch with stock specs will do.

I have the 1.8t. I don't plan on going hp crazy. i don't think i want to put more then 5 grand in the car, but i do want a little better performance. The wheels tires and suspension are all great, but i feel like i could use a little more pull off the line. I'm sure a stock clutch will work. The question is, do i go to the dealership or would it be a better idea to go with a local performance shop?

I went to the audi dealership and they gave me a quote around 1450 for a new clutch. is this pricey, or is this the reality of owning a sweet ride? Also anyone know of a good body shop around van, i was thinking of getting a new paint job?

Should be able to get it for less $ at an independent; let us know which part of Vancouver you live in , and folks may be able to suggest someone close to where you are.

I live around first and commercial. Also found another little issue with the car. Before buying it the previous owner degreased the engine, with something pretty potent. now whenever i turn on heat/AC, it smells awful. The guy said it would burn off but ive put on a couple hundred km and still it reaks, It has mellowed a bit though. It reminds me of my parents ford Taurus station wagon, which was prone to getting moldy airfilters, so we would have to change them every spring. Could the last owner have just told me it was the degreaser, and or are 01 A4's prone to this???

http://www.blitzkriegautowerks.ca

Blitzkrieg are on Franklin right close to you. I haven't used them but many other Audi & VW guys have. Ref A/C mouldiness smell - all cars (not just Audi's) do that unless you dry out the condenser after use. My suggestion is to remove the cabin air filter and spray stuff like Lysol down the air channel to clean things up a but; also run on high heat and airflow while driving down the highway to dry out the vent pipes etc

Blitzkrieg for sure. They do really good work.

As for more power you can't go wrong with chipping for $600ish. There are quite a few shops in the lower mainland that can do chipping. We have revo, apr, and i think someone does giac in richmond too. Join VE • Index page and come out to the coffee meet so we can point you to some directions :P

Hey dude, I just got my first Audi in September. First thing I did (other than some needed maintenance) was the Revo software flash. Zensport in Victoria here did it for me for about $500, and with that modification alone it netted me 80 extra tq and 50 extra hp, as well as better timing and fuel curves - at no miliage expense! It went from one of the slowest cars I've ever driven to something that can hold it's own

yea chipping it for around 500 bucks, then if u want to go for more hp gain like 10-15 extra.. get a exhaust for it. (also before u chip the car , get a set of 225TT 386cc fuel injectors... =)))
