Default 2001 AUDI A4 tranny problem

I just recently lost reverse in my transmission. All the forward gears are fine. There is also a hesitation in shifts when I use the tiptronic. I have read that a change in fluids will solve the problem. If not, is this an expensive fix. I dont mean to sound dumb but this is my fist audi.

There's no harm in trying a fluid change, and seeing what happens. Change the filter and gasket at the same time. The parts and fluid should cost $150-200.
taligentx.com: Passat - ATF & Filter Replacement

You might instead be able to find a shop that knows how to do a fluid change on these cars. Many won't. The filler tube is under the car near the drain hole, so it's a bit fussier a job and it's possible to underfill it if you don't know what you're doing. Also the procedure is very specific about the engine being up to temperature at the time.

What happens if its not as simple as a fluid change. And what about the tiptronic not shifting

If the fluid change does nothing, you're possibly looking at a new transmission. Most often things like this are due to internal damage to the transmission and it's actually cheaper to replace than to repair.

It could be the computer has failed. I don't know what the classic signs of that are but it's worth checking into. You might do a search on audizine.com and audiworld.com for more feedback.

In cases like these, my advise is just take it to the dealers.
