1998 1.8T no Heat from Heater
#11
Re: 1998 1.8T no Heat from Heater
Just for anyone following this thread...
My car was suffering from the following symptoms:
1. Heat was warm, but not hot (after the heater core had been flushed)
2. The car took over 20mins to reach operating temp (90 C), but never overheated
I changed my thermostat on the weekend. So im going to give you a heads up on things i ran into.
1. When draining the coolant, DRAIN THE HEATER CORE. This isn't an option, unless you want to be showered by coolant.
2. The thermostat is held in by the rubber o-ring (after you have removed the piping). Remove the rubber o-ring and the thermostat will come right out.
3. Replace the thermostat and o-ring. (coat the o-ring with a bit of coolant to lubricate it)
4. It is trickier to put the thermostat back in as it doesn't hold itself in place.
5. MAKE SURE THE THERMOSTAT IS PUT IN THE RIGHT WAY!!!! If not your car is going to overheat. (no i did not make this mistake)
Since the Change, my car reaches operating temp in less than 5 minutes and does not budge past 90 degrees Celsius.
The heat is also very nice and hot for those cold mornings.
So if anyone has any more questions on changing a thermostat, ask away.
