1997 audi a4 problem
OK so heres the problem
i have a 1997 audi a4 2.8...the car stalls when i come to a stop sign or a red light. It seems to do it on complete randomness. the revs dip down to under 500 then back up too about 2000 and then you try to give it gas and it just stalls.
usually takes about 10 m inutes to fire it up again.now i dont kno if it hasto do with temperature cause my temp gaugu does not work i took it to 2 shops and both could not figure out the problem and car ran fine for them. then finally it stalled and they said it was fuel pump so got that changed and it ran fine for about a week then stated to happen again, It doesnt happen alot could be fine for a couple days then will happen out of the blue
Any suggestions or help would be great as i really do not know what to do.

Re: 1997 audi a4 problem
dont know if this helps but on my 98 2.8 it kept stalling out turns out it was the idle value set in the computer for some it just kept losing the setting.i had it reset with the vag com twice
and it ran fine after that for the 6 months i kept it.

mine needed a throttle body recalibration when it did that you can do it with vagcom. heres the link Ross-Tech: VAG-COM: Throttle Body Alignment
I
Pop the spark plug leads off and see if the contacts are disintegrated as well because i had a friend who had that problem which caused this
Temp gauge if it isnt the sensor it could be the dash... common problem in the UK apparently. Is it not working at all or just not getting up to the right temperature. Could also be the thermostat is stuck open which would throw the temp sensor code. Consistantly running the car cold will cause this problem too, and end up wrecking your catalytic converters, which will run you roughly 600 dollars a piece for either side from audi, plus 400 dollars worth of O2 sensors if they decide to go on you - weighing out the cost id get it fixed or you will be dishing out $ for the initial problem plus 2 grand to fix the resulting problem if you are not mechanically inclined. Can you here the exhaust like popping or rattling when you run the car? what could be happening is you are running rich causing it to stall out and flood the engine which would explain why you have to wait 10 minutes.... If your catalytic converters are f***ed or a post cat o2 sensor you will get codes saying you are running lean and rich, aswell you may end up with a code for a faulty post cat 02 sensor
