Huge Climate Control Problem

I own an Audi A4 AVant with a dual-zone climate control system.

After 30 minutes of driving hot air from the vents turn cold. When I set the temp settings to HI (27 degrees) the fans start spinning faster but even MORE COLD air is entering the CAR.

The garage has replaced the motor (actuated valve) that seperates the cold inlet air with the hot air from the engine. This did not help.

Later they foud out that cooling liquid was full of dirty particals, They have replaced the Radiator and the waterpomp. Also replaced the coolant and flushed it perfectly clean. STILL NO SUCCESS.

After 7 hours of expensive maintenance and replacement of part, to air coming out of the vents is still COLD.

When i turn off the CC, and turn it back on after 10 minutes, WARM air comes out again for about 3 minutes before it gets COLD again.

Both I and probably the AUDI mechanics at my garage are puzzled, while i keep paying expensive bills.

Anyone got a hint to overcome this drama ?

Any help is VERY much welcome !!

Maybe your heater core is not working properly. Did you have it flushed in the process? I had a similar issue with vents blowing cold air but after flushing the heater core it worked worked consistently. I suspect that your heater core is clogged flushing might or might not help (you can get it done between $50 and $100 depending on where you go). If flushing does not work you might have to replace it which involves a dash pull (you are looking at $500 to $900 depending on hwere you go).. Good luck!!!

Is there any change in the temperature based on the RPM of the engine?
I have a problem, that I think it actually water pump related... when I stop driving the air starts to blow cool - give it some gas, and it warms right up.
I tried clearing my heater core with little success... thats why I am leaning towards the actual pump.

Im reality there are only a few components that contribute to the heating system...
You might want to see if you have hot water circulating through the core... thats maybe a good first step.

Re: Huge Climate Control Problem

Hi all,

Thanks for the quick responses..

I think that when the engine got very hot after the first cleaning action, more debris and rust particles has dropped into the cooling water.

Yesterday the air temperature was changing from cold to hot but at least it doesn't stay cold all the time anymore after the last repair.

Hopefully re-cleaning it will eventually clean up the system enough to make it work correct again.

Similar mysterious problem with 04 Audi A4 TDi. Climate control works fine on driver's side but blasts out hor air regardless on passenger side even with a/c on. Both set at LO and Auto. Ice cold one side and HOT HOT the other? Any ideas?

Your thermostat could be stuck! Look at your coolant temp guage. Should be dead in the middle when the engine warms up.
By the way, you have a B6 audi platform.
