Fuel Filter replacement

Has anyone ever changed the fuel filter, it looks as though the tank needs to be dropped down. I did a search but didn't find any info on it.
The bentley manual doesn't seem to help at all, it says on pg f20-13 that it should be in the book, but does not seem to be. Its hard to belive a simple filter change is a dealership service. Has anyone had there's done at the stealership ?

Thanks

You don't need to drop the tank, but do make sure you have the right replacement filter, this particular year it had banjo fittings on both ends- make sure you have the right replacement washers too or your get a fuel leak. You can see the filter if you look up from under just in front of the right rear tire.
Note- i just checked the manual, the 2-banjo filter version is only on the quattro - the front wheel drive has regular straight-in threaded connections.

Re: Fuel Filter replacement

Replaced mine on the B5 S4 along with power upgrades, exactly as Frob says with Banjo fittings and did not have to drop the fuel tank. It's a bit of fiddling, have a drip tray and a few rags ready.

Bought new filter and 2 new washers to ensure no leaks. Got parts from ECS for under $25. 85K KMs and original filter was Filthy to say the least!

Re: Fuel Filter replacement

thanks for the info, and thanks for the link Chaos.
I'm not sure how you would get that torx bolt undone with dropping the tank there is no room. Also that little lip on the fuel tank cover/gaurd that looks like it would stop the filter from dropping out the bottom.
I now know i got the wrong filter though. hmmm... i wonder how much the dealership charge for this job

Re: Fuel Filter replacement

well not sure if its just my filter now. Its cutting out on me, and its getting worse. Possible the fuel pump, my code reader is telling me i'm getting multiple misfires, i just replaced plugs about 500km ago. Nothin money can't fix...ugh
