Hey Tony,
the best and most efficient way is to run the car with the coolant cap off or if it starts spraying up then leave the cap on but unscrew it so you circulate some air through there. It is a lengthy process but it works. and then keep doing that and adding coolant

NP.... Just be careful as it will get really hot... you can squeeze it out a bit faster by pressing and releasing the hoses that run to the rad...once again be careful as they get hot as well. Or you can take it to your local shop and they will charge you and undo the airlock obviously as some might suggest! The car will get hot so keep an eye on the temp gauge and make sure you don't go over the 90 temp zone as it will stick your thermostats.

Here is the tools you need for refilling it looks like a little flange and screws onto the cap this is for a B6 I would ask for a b5

Screw adapter VAG1274/8 onto coolant expansion tank.
Fit special tool VAG1274/10 onto adapter.
Fill cooling system with coolant.
Seal expansion tank.
Start engine and maintain engine speed of approx. 2000 RPM for approx. 3 minutes.
Allow engine to run at idling speed until lower hose on radiator becomes hot.
CAUTION!
Hot steam can escape when cap on expansion tank is opened. Cover cap with cloth and open carefully.

Check coolant level and top off if necessary.
When engine is at normal operating temperature, coolant level must be at max. mark.
When engine is cold, coolant level must be between min. and max. marks.
Switch off engine.
