You mean to tell me you walked outside to your car, and you didn't have 4 flat tires? lol Are you sure you didn't just try to get your car drunk?

OK ok.. I'll stop the instigating... Sometimes its good to have a laugh. Yeah, I saw the weather on the news there and Calgary was super cold yesterday.. In the news report, there was A lot of cars driving around... I guess everyone used special gas that day... Oh geez, there I go again, it just rolls of my finger tips.. lol

Good to hear a member proving everyones point about the cold! I have also been advised not to use a block heater.

Listen to the Statements and let me know if there was a block heater plugged in.

I had mine sitting out @ -54 degrees C last winter over night, had difficulty opening the door because it froze shut, got in the car and started it right up without any hesitation. Trust me I know how cold it gets, and trust me You are all fine without a block heater!

It took me 30 seconds to start A6 and 1 minute to start the A4. I have 2.8 V6 engines.
In case I had them plugged, they would start right away.
These Trono Trono guys have no idea what we just went through, but it is coming their way now.

It's true that a block heater is not required. For many years past Audi has not shipped new vehicles with a block heater even though they are destined for cold climates with a Cold Weather Package etc. An improperly installed coolant in-line heater is what most people are warning about as it can cause other problems.

Having said that, I use the oil pan heaters only in the real cold weather as in below -30C. It is healthier for your engine as the oil will move immediately. Of course a full synthectic 5W30 or equivalent for your vehicle oil change in the Fall is good insurance for cold weather engine starts too.

Enjoy Winter!

I have always used 0W30 (all year round) as the manual recomends for my B6; it doesn't say 'use 5W30 during the winter season'. Now, what would be the difference between the two ? Is it really better to use 5W30 during the colder days ?
