Better Halogen Bulbs
 

Ok, so I just want to put new bulbs in the lights...
At C-tire I see the standard array of bulbs, including the silverstar ones for $59.99... I have read the threads on HID's but im not really interested in getting that involved.

Then im crusing on ebay and notice the silverstar bulbs slightly cheaper in some cases... but then I see bulbs out of Hong Kong for $3 shipped.

Its crazy... but I also noticed that some of them are 100W bulbs and some are 55W bulbs.

Read some other stuff around that says the 100W ones will fry the wiring...

Anyone have experience with this?

Get the proper 55W bulbs for your car. The hong kong ones will likely burn out fast. Though you could buy several sets and still be saving $$$, but the question is: do you want to change bulbs every 3-6 months? The silverstars are very bright. And I have used them in the past and been happy with their illumination, but they too, burn out quicker than standard bulbs. Decide what is important to you.... Your time, your budget, illumination etc

I had Silverstar and they claimed to be so much better, but they are not. The bulbs could be brighter when they measure the lumen output on an instrument but they do not tell you that the extra light comes in blue that humans do not see anyways (Cats do!).

So in my opinion they are cheaters and Silverstar is not any brighter than regular halogen bulb. It is a waste of money.

I felt so much better when I switched to regular halogen bulb. The spectrum of it is designed for human eye.

You may get stopped by the cops with 100W light bulbs, and it will melt your plastic.

You will never find brighter halogens! The colour spectrum and lumens can never be increased in a usable format. If you truly want brighter lights, you will have to change to HIDs - unfortunately there is no easy way out.

i have to disagree here. i have done a side by side comparison of silverstar and standard GE halogens from canadian tire on my taxi, and the silverstar were definitely brighter, but as i said, they burn out quicker. i can usually get about 12-15 months out of standard halogens in my taxi but the silverstars i would only get about 6 months out of them. i have tried the silverstars twice, as i thought the first pair may have been faulty, but the second ones were the same story.
